Review Muirfield Golf Club Wat een uitzonderlijke dag op Muirfield! We mochten als gasten van een lid deze iconische golfclub ervaren, en vanaf het eerste moment was het een voorrecht. De dag begon in stijl met koffie en een Bloody Mary in de lounge, waarna we de baan opgingen voor 18 holes in foursome-format. De baan zelf is een ware klassieker – perfect onderhouden, uitdagend, en met elke hole een nieuw, schilderachtig uitzicht over de kustlijn. Na afloop volgde een borrel en een uitgebreide lunch met drie gangen. Uiteraard in jasje dasje. Van voorgerecht tot nagerecht alles van topkwaliteit, begeleid door uitstekende wijnen — van Meursault tot Pomerol. De sfeer in het clubhuis ademt traditie, gastvrijheid en klasse. Na de lunch nog vijf holes gespeeld, waarbij het licht en de vergezichten de dag een bijna magisch slot gaven. Golfen op Muirfield? Een waanzinnige ervaring — in één woord onvergetelijk!

Wat een bijzondere ervaring om hier op uitnodiging van een lid (reeds 50 jaar lid) hier te mogen spelen. 36 holes inclusief de befaamde lunch (verplicht jasje-dasje) en voorafgaand een bacon roll met koffie aan een soort stamtafel waardoor je makkelijk met andere leden aan de praat komt. Wie van golfhistorie houdt is hier op juiste adres. Een eregalerij met winnaars van het Brits open zoals Sir Nick Faldo en Ernie Els. We speelden in stevige wind met een zonnetje en geen regen. Fairways en tees heel mooi, bunkers en greens nog mooier. Nu 6 dagen later herinner ik me nog iedere hole en shot, dit is werkelijk waar een unieke baan met een unieke uitstraling. De baan is te boeken als greenfeespeler, hier hangt wel een aardig prijskaartje aan, maar ik denk wel waar voor je geld. De shop ook nog even bezocht uiteraard. Hiervoor is een goede portemonnee ook helaas gewenst. Een dag om nooit te vergeten.

At Murifield marshall welcomes you at the club gate to show the directions and to hand over suveniour badge. The frong nine holes circle clockwise around the perimeter of the property, whereas the back nine run anti-clockwise on an inner circuit. Track is mostly flat, main obstacles are winds, fast & undulated greens, bunkers as well as deep rough in some strategic spots for wandering balls. Birdie book which you get from the starter is of indispensible help as not all of 150 bunkers are visible from tees & fairways and some visible bunkers are much larger than pot size. Bunkers collection areas are vast, it is a smart play to avoind landing the ball in any proximity of the bunkers. Signature holes are par five holes #5 and #17. The former hole green could be reached in two down the wind and the latter hole is a classic risk vs reward hole with heavy bunkering and heart-shaped green in amphitheater like location. We liked several par three holes as well. Clubhouse is yet another phenomenal experience. The structure and aesthetic of the dining room is exactly as it was when first built. Interiors are packed wiht golf memorabilias with paintings, papers, golf prizes, pictures and books inter alia to the point one could eaisly spend hours there just to look at golf exhibits. Jacket & tie dinner offers superb selection of main courses & desserts. Bar is not only well-equipped but also Italian bartender gives great local whisky tips.

Tradicion y legado. Club con mas solera del mundo. Clasico links, bien protegido con bunkers. Es como el Old Course de St Andrews. Hay que jugarlo. No decepciona. Gran experiencia

I have been lucky enough to play Muirfield a number of times now and each time I fall more in love with the place. Each time we have had a warm welcome and you feel special. The course does not beat you up, it is playable for all and is a fantastic experience. The clubhouse is just magnificent.
