Golf courses in Murcia

Murcia as a golf destination is less well known than the nearby Costa Blanca but rewards those who make the effort to look beyond the headline names. The city and its surroundings have a compact but interesting golf offering spread across terrain that varies from the fertile huerta lowlands to the dry sierra above. Club de Golf Altorreal, designed by Dave Thomas on a hilltop above the northern outskirts of the city, is the standout: a course that plays over demanding terrain with panoramic views of the surrounding sierra and enough challenge to satisfy golfers of every level. El Valle Golf Resort, in the natural valley of the same name east of the city, offers a completely different character — dry, naturalistic and with a finish that runs along the valley floor. La Manga Club, forty-five minutes east of the city near Cartagena, is the region's most internationally prominent resort and has hosted more professional events than almost any other venue in Spain. Murcia International Airport and Alicante Airport (fifty minutes away) both provide access. The city of Murcia itself is genuinely worth exploring: its Baroque cathedral, excellent tapas culture and the Semana Santa processions are among the finest in Spain.
