When you arrive following the beautiful driveway way you see the first holes of the old course designed by Willie Park (1907), and also Harry Colt helped in 1913 (the 9th hole). The course looks pretty benign from the te,e but the green complexes are very challenging. The clubhouse is a massive landhouse where you have a great view of the 18th par 3 of the New course. Unfortunately we only had time to play the Old Course, but we really enjoyed it. They had a very nice pro shop and great lunch. So an amazing find with 36 holes in Surrey and definitely great to play!

When speaking with locals, you might be led to believe that Burhill isn’t anything special. However, the moment you enter the property and drive up to its impressive clubhouse, you can’t help but feel a surge of excitement. There’s no denying Burhill has a tough time competing with its famous neighbours—St George’s Hill, Woking, Sunningdale, Worplesdon, and West Hills—but from what I gathered, they’re well aware of their position and limitations. I must say everything looked impeccably maintained and manicured. The clubhouse and terrace, overlooking the 18th hole of the New Course, are excellent, the Burhill logo is tastefully displayed on all signage, and overall their operation seems to run smoothly. During our visit, we played the Old Course, designed by Willie Park in 1907. The first few holes are quite straightforward and admittedly not very memorable, both in terms of play and looks, though some minor tweaks could improve their visual appeal. The course becomes more interesting as you progress, and the holes grow in character. Although the greens had just been aerated, they were already in better condition than those at St George’s Hill. The green complexes add another layer of difficulty: they may appear deceptively simple, but they feature plenty of breaks and undulations. Also, kudos for the nice halfway house! We had a pleasant round and concluded it with a well-deserved lunch and drinks on the terrace. Since we were guests, I won’t comment on the value for money, but a green fee of £135–£145 does feel fairly steep (the member guest rate, by the way, is just £56 - £66). That said, you are paying for a beautifully maintained parkland course in a lovely setting. The staff were relaxed, efficient, and friendly. If you drive an electric car, there are charging points conveniently located right in front of the clubhouse.

Visited Burhill as part of an affiliation arrangement with my local club. Hence the zero green fee was very reasonable! Otherwise I believe green fees over £100 are the norm at Burhill. It is in many ways an impressive place with two nicely maintained 18 hole courses and a grand old clubhouse building. The new course is a fair challenge with plenty of tight fairways and water/out of bounds markers to avoid. The signature hole is the par 3 18th playing over water to a green in front of the clubhouse. Nice if you can birdie it like one of those in my group. All in all a nice venue but a little pricey for what you get at full price.

Played this course a few times, but today it really really impressed me. The condition was at a level I would expect from a top 100 course in the world.

Clubhouse is superb and the staff are all very friendly.

The New Course

This remarkable championship course opened in 2001. Its large, fast greens are well protected by strategic bunkering, not to mention a number of water hazards, including the River Mole, which meanders through the course. It is also the proud host of The Regional Open Qualifying Series. It is built in complete contrast to the Old Course.

Designed by Willie Park Junior and opened in 1907, this beautiful parkland course has a timeless charm and some enjoyable challenges. The smooth greens are quick and undulating, with some original features blending well with recent course changes, ensuring today’s longer hitters are still well-tested.
