Stocks Golf Club

Driving up to Stocks you think you’re in for a great day; all the ingredients are there, including a rolling topography, decent facilities and a good clubhouse. However, the course is a real let-down. The condition is fine and the land is there for a good course but they could have done a much better job with the routing. Hedges throughout really spoil the views, make it a long walk from tee to green even if you don’t get lost doing so. The one truly great hole is the Par 5 4th with an elevated tee shot and then a cape-style second shot which makes the landing area seem so much closer than it really is. Very deceptive and very cool. Finally, what fun that might have existed is sucked away by the ridiculously penal rough that means it is fairway or lost ball. Yawn. I won’t be back.
