Golf in Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire is located just above London. The county derives its name from a hart (stag) and a ford (shallow place where a river or stream may be crossed by wading). Hertfordshire is known to be a very pretty county and with it's lovely parkland golf courses a golf break to Hertfordshire will not disappoint. Bushey Hall Golf Club, founded in 1889, is the oldest golf club in Hertfordshire.

Golf in Hertfordshire
Hertfordshire provides a nice mix for golfers between historic golf courses and also new developments like The Grove, which hosted the 2006 World Golf Championships. The best golf courses in Hertfordshire are Ashridge Golf Club, The Grove Golf Club, Hadley Wood Golf Club, The Centurion Club and The Shire London Golf Club, the only course in the UK designed by Seve Ballesteros. The highest density of good golf courses can be found around Watford, making that city a good place to stay. When in Hertfordshire, explore famous sites such as St Albans Cathedral, Hatfield House, Knebworth House, or capture the magic of Harry Potter with a visit to Warner Bros. Hertfordshire is well-served with motorways and railways, providing good access to London, the Midlands and the North. Hertfordshire can also be reached easily from London’s airports, with both London Luton and London Stansted airports right on the county’s border. London Heathrow is just outside the county, only 30 minutes away from St Albans.

Centurion Club
We visited Centurion just 10 days before the Sixes were held there so they were in full preparation of this event and we were lucky to play hole 5-14. We got shuttled out there in a Landrover with fine rental clubs and by a very friendly staff member. The 5th is a nice par 3 in the more sheltered part of the course. Later on you go more in the open. Centurion is a relat…

Hanbury Manor Hotel Golf & Country Club
Good choice if you are looking for a golf course north of London. First nine are more modern and not really typical Nicklaus design if you ask me and I like the second (old) nine much more which were initially designed by Harry Vardon.  First tee is quite far from the clubhouse though and so is the way from 9 to 10th hole if you are walking the course. Course is well main…

The Grove Golf Club
Top MUST PLAY golf course that has hosted the WGC (won by Tiger Woods!) & the British Masters with a very high service level. They don’t have members. They are completely focused on giving the guests a fantastic golf experience. Pro: -Very friendly staff. -The balls on the driving range are stacked in pyramids. That tells you you’re in the right place. -Lovely short g…
