About Real Club Valderrama
Real Club Valderrama is located in Andalucia, the largest and southern-most region of Spain. A few miles north of Gibraltar, it is approximately two hours' drive from Cádiz and one and a half hours from Málaga. The climate is ideal for year-round golf. The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 metres from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot. The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Sotogrande New. In 1981 its name was changed to Las Aves. Finally, Ortiz-Patiño renamed the course Valderrama, after the ancient estate on which the land is situated.

Incredible Course, easier than expected. Service on point on every aspect. For 600€ is what you would expect, but still to be played at least once in your life.

We thoroughly enjoyed Valderrama - the golf course, the shop, and the spike bar. We had lunch in the spike bar before playing golf, the food was great. The golf course was spectacular. Jose was our forecaddie, he was friendly and very knowledgable about the course - he gave us many good lines on the greens! A really nice touch was the guys cleaning our clubs after the round of golf, while we had a couple of drinks in the spike bar. We would definitely visit Valderrama again!

We were vacationing near Cadiz and to my surprise i found there were tee times available at Valderrama on my birthday. Couldn’t say no to that even if it meant 1,5 hrs drive one way and the hefty greenfee. Reservation was handled very kindly by Vanessa. Turning up on the day is an experience of its own. The entrance, the reception, the surroundings. I checked in and got a course guide, a bottle and a bag tag. Had to buy a shirt of course. Had a quick lunch at the Spike bar and then went to the driving range to warm up. Then to the putting green near the first tee. Here i met my flight partners, two Brits and a Russian. There are apples and bananas to take with you as well as score cards etc. I shared a caddy, Miquel, with the two Brits. I didn’t play my best golf but thoroughly enjoyed the round. It’s stunningly beautiful yet quite difficult mainly on the greens. I made a few putts but even with the caddy underestimated the speed. Especially impressive are the holes 4, 6, 9, 10, 15, 17 and 18. Great views and challenging shots. We got round in 4,5 hrs and it stayed dry fortunately. We paid our caddy and I had to start driving back, so couldn’t stay for a drink. All in all an experience of a lifetime even though the greenfee is the most i have ever paid.
