About Atalaya Golf & Country Club

Atalaya Golf & Country Club is one of the Costa del Sol’s most distinguished golfing destinations, offering 36 holes across two remarkably different courses in a privileged setting close to Marbella, Estepona and Puerto Banús. Combining more than five decades of golfing heritage with outstanding practice facilities and a welcoming international atmosphere, Atalaya provides a complete experience for players seeking quality golf beneath the Mediterranean sun. The Old Course, designed by renowned German golf architect Dr. Bernhard von Limburger and opened in 1968, has become one of the region’s most established and admired layouts. Its generous fairways flow gently between mature trees and flowering shrubs, while strategically placed bunkers and frequently elevated greens reward thoughtful course management, accuracy and a confident short game. Elegant, highly playable and rich in character, it is a timeless parkland course that remains enjoyable for golfers of different abilities while offering a compelling challenge from the back tees. The New Course, designed by Paul Krings and opened in 1990, presents a more secluded and adventurous side of Atalaya. Winding through rolling natural terrain, the course offers a peaceful atmosphere, abundant wildlife and impressive views towards the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and the African coastline. Its varied elevation changes, narrower playing corridors and strategically demanding holes invite golfers to think carefully about every shot, creating a rewarding experience in which precision and imagination are often more valuable than distance. Together, the two courses offer genuine variety: the classic beauty and generous proportions of the Old Course contrast with the natural, undulating character of the New Course. This makes Atalaya an ideal choice for golfers who wish to enjoy two distinctive rounds without leaving the same club. Atalaya is also home to the PG Golf & Sports Academy, founded in 2020 and recognised for its extensive training facilities. It features the only TrackMan Driving Range on the Costa del Sol, together with dedicated areas for long-game practice, putting, chipping and bunker play. Coaching is available in several languages, allowing visiting golfers to refine every aspect of their game with the support of an experienced international teaching team. Beyond the courses, Atalaya is defined by its relaxed yet refined club atmosphere. The club currently has a vibrant international community of 410 members, and membership opportunities remain available for those wishing to become part of the Atalaya experience. Golfers can also enjoy professional service, comprehensive practice facilities and the opportunity to unwind after their round in the clubhouse surroundings. The club is committed to maintaining and preserving its courses through sustainable and environmentally responsible practices, protecting the natural landscape that forms such an important part of the Atalaya experience. Whether discovering the heritage of the Old Course, embracing the scenic challenge of the New Course or dedicating time to improving at the academy, every visit to Atalaya offers something different. Two courses, one exceptional setting and a golfing experience created to be enjoyed throughout the year.

The Old Course is a very player-friendly course that offers a relaxed, pleasant pace of play; it is an open layout with wide fairways and some par-5s where you can comfortably use your driver. Overall, it was a very good experience.

I love this club. Easy access. Very effective all time present reception with no uneccessary delayes. Old Course Is beautifully designed, in excellent condition all year around. New course is demanding, but full of wonderful views and sceneries. Pro shop where you can find every time something “that you desperately need”. Clubhouse restaurant and bar with nice terraces to count your strokes.

Dear Mr. Niall, Thank you very much for your wonderful comments and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We truly appreciate your kind words about our staff and the condition of the golf course. As of today, June 1st, we have closed the Old Course to carry out our annual summer maintenance program. However, we will reopen it on June 22nd, and I am confident it will be in even better condition than before. In the meantime, the Atalaya Golf New Course remains open for play and is ready to welcome all golfers. Thank you again for your support. I hope to see you back very soon, enjoying our golf courses. Kind regards, Andres Sanchez Garcia General Manager Atalaya Golf & Country Club

Unfortunately, our visit started with a very disappointing reception. Upon arrival at the restaurant, the four employees present were either standing around or sitting down, while there were no customers at all. Despite this, nobody approached us or offered any assistance. Afterwards, we went to the Caddiemaster desk, where two employees were assisting customers. The bald gentleman was friendly towards another guest, but the younger employee who helped us was clearly irritated by the two simple questions we asked: where we could have lunch and where the driving range was located. His attitude was noticeably negative and unwelcoming. Normaly we almost always buy someting from the club in the shop as a memory, but not this time! These are important aspects of the golfing experience, and management should address them as soon as possible! With such a reception, our first instinct was honestly to leave immediately, but since we had already paid for our round, we decided to continue. The golf course itself was enjoyable, but unfortunately the maintenance level was disappointing. The greens were bumpy and had many poor spots, while the bunkers were in bad condition with very hard sand. Overall, this course is certainly not worth the price we paid, especially considering the poor service and maintenance standards.

Dear Mr. Leopold, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your comments regarding your recent visit to Atalaya Golf. First of all, I am truly sorry that your experience did not fully meet your expectations, especially regarding the welcome and service you received upon arrival. This is certainly not the level of hospitality we aim to provide to our guests and members. We will speak with our staff about your comments, although I must say that they are normally very service-oriented and friendly, which is why I am surprised by what may have happened on this occasion. Nevertheless, we have already addressed the matter internally to ensure that situations like this do not happen again. Regarding the course conditions, thank you as well for your observations. We continuously work on improving and maintaining the course to the highest standards possible. May I ask how your game on the New Course was overall? Did you enjoy the beautiful views and the condition of the fairways? I sincerely hope that, despite the inconveniences mentioned, there were still some positive aspects of your day with us. Once again, I am sorry that you were not able to enjoy your experience as much as you should have. Kind regards, Andres Sanchez General Manager Atalaya Golf & Country Club
