Slieve Russell Golf & Country Club

Slieve Russel is een resort dan schijnbaar veel voor trouwfeesten wordt geboekt. Er is daarnaast ook een golfbaan en de nationale PGA huist hier. We worden in de ruime proshop ontvangen en maken gebruik van de GolfAmore kaart. Dat scheelt. We mogen iets eerder dan de afgesproken tijd starten en dat is handig voor de rit naar Airport Dublin. Deze baan heeft een drivingrange met een beperkt aantal matten. We treffen een enthousiaste starter die ook in Nederland jeugd wedstrijden heeft gespeeld. De eerste hole is een prima openingshole. Ook vandaag zijn de fairways doordrenkt van het water want het heeft heel veel geregend. De holes zijn afwisselend en prima aangelegd. Op deze baan is er een actieve Marchall die de doorloop van de groepen goed in de gaten houdt. Hij zorgt ervoor dat we verschillende langzamere groepen snel kunnen passeren. Top! Het is een parkbaan in een landschap met vele oude bomen en struiken. Geen snelweg of airport in de buurt dus lekker genieten van de rust. In de baan zijn verschillende grote waterpartijen aanwezig waarlangs je speelt. Helaas hadden we best wat regen onderweg waardoor je minder van de baan kunt genieten. En greenkeeping had de fairways niet kunnen maaien. Maar op zich was het goed onderhouden. We hebben ons goed vermaakt

The backdrop is the exclusive and spacious Slieve Russell Hotel. The course is very pleasing to the eye and visually appealing. It is set in a gently undulating landscape. Looking at the map, it is dominated by two large, interconnected lakes, which come into play mainly on the second nine. Holes 12 and 13 wrap right around one of them. On the opening nine, hole 7, a par 3 played downhill, is particularly striking. Holes 11 and 16 are similarly amazing, both par 3s played over water. Flowering shrubs and mature trees complete the fairway surroundings. The quality of the resort is worthy of the PGA name. The perfect place to combine interesting golf with the luxurious facilities of a hotel. Moreover, thanks to the greater distance from Dublin, it is very reasonably priced.

Played a tournament in slieve russell and really enjoyed the golf course.

Beautiful design, generous fairways, great par 3s over water and course in very good condition overall despite heavy rain the previous weeks.

There is plenty of water in play and every hole is different.

Greens were superb.

Front 9 is tighter and played shorter.

Par 5's are almost all reachable on 2 so there are good birdie opportunities

Only one downside is that rough was extremely wet and soft on the front 9.

Will definitely play the course again.

Prachtige parkbaan bij gerenommeerd hotel. De baan wordt top onderhouden en is uitdagend genoeg. De oefenfaciliteiten zijn aanwezig maar wat beperkt. Met name de driving range is wat klein en betalen met €2,00 munten. Mocht je dat vergeten zijn is het een flinke wandeling terug naar het clubhuis :(Summit restaurant heeft een prima kaart en vriendelijke bediening. Het kan nodig zijn om te reserveren.
