Ennis Golf Club

Pretty average golf club and course. The course is not difficult and fairways are often wide, greens condition is excellent. However, the most weird thing about the golf course is that many holes cross ways, so you or others wait until you play the putt or the driver, otherwise it is not safe. Pictures actually reveal that too where you see the green in front of you from the tee box. Par3 16th is so close to the local road and at an angle to it, that you must make sure there are no cars (for any unforseen shank or slice) which forces you to rush your shot. The course is divided into two sections by the local road, but crossing is very safe with lights. Otherwise, the course is mostly flat, although there are few blind shots, dogleg holes and a few sloping greens. There is only a small practise green at the first hole, no chipping green, nor driving range. Surprisingly, the clubhouse is very nice, cosy and well kept, so you can comfortably relax after the round.

Mooie baan maar vrij smal waardoor ie uitdagend is. Nadeel is dat de baan zich op een beperkt stuk grond bevindt waardoor alle holes elkaar voortdurend kruisen of passeren. We moesten lang wachten ivm langzame spelers voor ons.

Covid time: no golf cars allowed though very altitude differences; restaurant closed just on our day of playing; well maintained with green keeper visibly active; no idea of atmosphere as very few players in flights and bar closed

Wij zijn hier super gastvrij ontvangen, we reizen met een camper door Ierland en doen meerdere golfbanen aan. Dit was er een van. We mochten op de parkeerplaats blijven staan om te overnachten. We mochten gebruik maken van alle voorzieningen. S’ ochtends een Iers ontbijt. Het was een mooie baan om te spelen veel holes lopen kriskras door elkaar dus af en toe moet je wel even op elkaar wachten. Fairways smal, greens klein en snel.

Right in the heart of the town Ennis Golf Club is a course which has improves beyond measure since I played it over ten years ago. Those then sapling tree's have now matured and the course is a proper test which I will be going back for more. I was made feel right at home from the time I booked the tee time by staff here. Immense work has been done here on drainage (it was closed at the sight of a rain cloud in the early noughties) and the course has reaped the rewards. There are a few crossing fairways so keep an eye out! Most of the holes are tree lined but there is plenty space between the lines :) The signature hole for me is the par four eleventh hole. Previously a par five its revised par has truly toughened up the hole. A long drive still leaves you with a testing second shot to an elevated green protected by bunkers. So yes get to Ennis if you want a truly enjoyable round of golf and stay for the honey like pints and savage post round burger!
