The Alwoodley Golf Club

Alwoodley, designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie in 1907, is widely regarded as one of England’s finest heathland courses. It sits on gently undulating ground, lined with trees and heather that come into play throughout the round. The routing flows beautifully, and every hole feels purposeful and natural. Course condition was excellent. Fairways and bunkers were immaculate, and the greens rolled superbly. The standout feature is the quality of the green complexes, full of subtle breaks and contours that reward precise approach play. The 10th hole, with its elevated tee and panoramic view over the Yorkshire countryside, is a particular highlight. Facilities are outstanding. The club has a full grass range, chipping and putting areas, and a well-stocked pro shop. The clubhouse offers great food, friendly service, and a fantastic patio overlooking the first tee and 18th green. Alwoodley is a masterclass in design and presentation, a course that perfectly captures the spirit of MacKenzie’s architecture and remains one of the best golfing experiences in the north of England.

El recorrido de Alwodley tiene una dificultad media, con calles visibles y greenes largos, pero sin muchas caídas; en mi opinión, los factores que más dificultad comportan son los roughs, muy altos en general, y la gran cantidad de bunkers que protegen los greenes. El Pro-shop tiene buen material y está atendido por personal muy servicial y de trato muy amable.

La casa club tiene unos vestuarios correctos y la restauración es igualmente correcta, aunque necesita una actualización en sus instalaciones y decoración; el servicio bueno, con personal afable y atento a hacer las cosas fáciles al visitante.

Great course, rough is way too severe just off the fairway, unless everyone is off very low handicap it’s a day looking for golf balls.

This indeed is one of the finest inland championship courses not just in Yorkshire but in England. Alwoodley - near Leeds - was the first design project of Dr Alister MacKenzie, a founding member and the club's first secretary in 1907. The course is tough, but not too difficult. It is quite subtle. You need to have proper course management here and you need to have a good drive to score. The renovated bunkers are nice!

Maintenance is really great and this course sits perfectly in this heathland area. Definitely one of my favorite courses in England. A course to remember.
