Fantastic course in design but sadly abandoned in terms of maintenance.
Fairways are very soft and bare and you are hitting muck after rain.
Tee boxes are very poor and lack grass, green bunkers lack sand and fairway bunkers have no sand at all. They were full of weeds until last week.
Greens are now absolutely terrible. They are diseased due to a lack of care and maintenance and it will lilely take until spring 2024 before they get back to any decent condition.
Big issue beyond course condition is the pace of play. 5h15 for a midweek competition off the green tees!
This is sadly not a one-off but standard pace of play in the club.
There are plenty of golf courses offering much better value for 4 hour rounds including Killeen and Naas golf clubs literally neighbour courses to Palmerstown.

A great 18 hole parkland course with plenty of water including an island green on par 3 10th hole.
Unfortunately course is in awful condition as not maintained at all whole year.
Fairway bunkers have no sand and are full of weeds, green bunkers have very little sand and club bounces off the concrete base. Fairways are bare and not lush and do not take the rain well at all. The drainage work completed has not improved the fairways and the potholes are not been filled so course is far from being well presented.
It is a pity. Course could be very good with the right investment and management.
Other downside is that it typically takes a minimum of 5 hours to play the round. There is massive walk between greens and tees and the half way house adds another 20mn.
The club should consider a food van to reduce game duration and prevent "traffic jams" on 10th tee box.

What an absolute joy to play on this classic Irish parkland course. The maintenance on the fairways and Greens is impressive and the long lay-out of the course is impressive. The few local Irish that were there seemed Nice as well
I played here with a local member who Showed me around. The fairways are quite wide in general but there is a huge amount of fairway bunkers that are in play most of the time. Also there is a crazy amount of water around the course which is often in play.
Both the second and fourth hole are already very challenging holes where you have to cross the water. From hole 5 and onwards things open up a bit more. Probably hole 10 par3 is the signature hole with a 140 downwind Carry needed over the water to reach a huge island green.
Course management is key here. I played a decent +24 with a few very poor choices (with hindsight) and the last 2 holes in complete darkness, but I just could not stop playing.

Great course, long but wide fairways, plenty of water and variety, large clubhouse and good facilities, food always very good.
