Carton House Golf Club

Fantastic. This is how a golf club looks like: wonderfull and well maintained course, shop and restaurant appealing, great facilities, friendly staff, ….

Played Montgomery yesterday in strong winds. Amazing links style course, with incredible bunkering throughout the course. Long par 4s are particularly difficult in the wind. Highlight a heard of deer running between tee and green on 17 while we were playing.

Carton House è una struttura di grande impatto, con 36 buche e un resort che offre tutti i servizi immaginabili. La manutenzione è complessivamente buona, con fairway e green curati. Durante la mia visita ho giocato il percorso parkland: avrei voluto provare anche il links, ma in quei giorni era occupato da un evento. Il parkland si sviluppa in un contesto molto ampio, con ampi spazi e un tracciato che ricorda più i campi americani che quelli irlandesi. Nel complesso il design non mi ha colpito particolarmente: il percorso scorre in modo piuttosto monotono e poche buche si distinguono davvero. Le eccezioni sono dalla 14 alla 16, con due par 3 ben riusciti e impreziositi da ostacoli d’acqua che ne aumentano il fascino e la difficoltà. Un altro aspetto da considerare è il continuo saliscendi del terreno, che rende la camminata piuttosto faticosa; il cart diventa quasi una scelta obbligata se si vuole godere appieno del giro senza arrivare stanchi alle ultime buche. L’esperienza complessiva è stata interessante, ma le aspettative erano alte, anche per via del green fee non indifferente e delle recensioni molto positive che avevo letto prima di andare. Non sono stato soddisfatto come avrei sperato

Wow! What a course! If you play in Ireland, this is is one you definitely want to visit. Traditional course with lot’s of difficult hazards (particular well positioned bunkers). Located next to the beautiful Carton House which offers a fantastic hotel and restaurant.

Links Golf (Montgomery Platz) vom feinsten, optisch mit dem Schloss im Hintergrund vom Feinsten.

Gefühlt sind über 300 Bunker verbaut, da diese an strategisch wirklich wichtigen Stellen liegen ist man sicher immer wieder einen zu treffen.

Leider ist es sehr schwierig wieder aus diesen Bunkern herauszuschlagen, so dass der Spaßfaktor am Ende bei den uns begleitenden Damen eher gering war. Ein Gefühlt monsterschwerer Platz, ehr für Low Handicaper geeignet.
