About East Sussex National Golf & Country Club

East Sussex National was designed by Robert E Cupp, an American course architect who was regularly hired by Jack Nicklaus. Since the course was opened, it hosted many championships such as the European Open in 1993 and 1994, Challenge Tour events, European Tour Qualifying schools and many more. Both of the course have remained pretty much unchanged and all 36 holes are unique in their design. Playing East Sussex National is a truly memorable experience.

One of many hotel stay and play clubs catering for the group booking markets. Nothing wrong with that, of course, and they do it well. Two great courses with a great pedigree hosting prestigious tournaments over the years. To my old-fashioned eye, the hotel/clubhouse is not the prettiest but the golf course and surrounding countryside certainly are.

Both courses are really nice although very different. Prestigious club house with great sandwich.

Facade of the club house could do with some attention, but as a whole, the course and staff are very welcoming. Both courses offer differing challenges, however, my personal preference is the West course, which was originally intended as the club course. The East is more open and forgiving as it was constructed with spectators in mind, whereas the West offers a more challenging round. Some bunkers could do with improving or filling in, and for the less agile amongst us, some are quite a challenge to get in and out of, but we shouldn’t really be in them! All told, both are good courses for the green fee.
