Camberley Heath is a Harry Colt design opened in 1913. The land it's built on is great for golf, quite undulating, resulting in many little valleys where you have to navigate your shots over. As usual with Cotl designs, the par 3's are amazing, there are also some long and short par 4's that are both challenging. We played the course half March and it was already in good shape. The staff was very friendly I tried to find something healthy (like a salad, veggies) on the lunch menu but there was none. My favorite hole is the 197 yards (yellow tee) par 3 towards the clubhouse, you need an amazing tee shot to get the ball on the well guarded green, really beautiful.

Camberley Heath might not be as well known as the top courses in the Surrey area, but that is mainly because of its location and the abundance of very good and famous golf courses. In any other area this would definitely be mentioned as one of the better golf courses. The drive up to the clubhouse is nice and there is enough parking space. The clubhouse is not very impressive, but it is functional and works. We had lunch in the clubhouse and it was ok (some healthy options, like a salad would be nice). Then the golf course, because that's the most important. This old Colt course (over 100 years old) has a nice flow to it. We hired a trolley, but we got two electrical trolleys (very nice ones by the way) and I understand why. The course is pretty hilly. If you are in shape, it is not really a problem, but expect a few climbs. The opening hole is nice and easy and warms you up for the rest of the course. The par 3's are visually appealing, often uphill and against the sun. So these are not easy. The course is not very long, so quite enjoyable and with some tough par 4's. The course is surrounded by housing, but due to the many trees and the tunnel going under the road the experience is one which is peaceful. We played here mid March so the course was just getting shape but it was already pretty good. Greens were fine, fairways were a bit hard (difficult for the wedges) and bunkers were good. The 18th is a hole to remember. You have to hit over a hill and then hit up to the elevated green just below the terrace and the clubhouse. We had a lovely day and if you are in the area, don't forget to play this course. It might go a bit under the radar because it's surrounded by a lot of famous courses. When the heather is in bloom, this makes the course even prettier.

Course type: Parkland / heathland Topography: Undulating in places, especially towards the end of the round. Best feature: The greens were a standout feature, well-maintained and featuring a mix of interesting contours, undulation, and run-offs that made putting a rewarding challenge. Hole 18 is a great finishing hole, played over the side of a heather clad hill into a valley with an uphill second shot into the green in front of the bar terrace. Worst feature: Hole 16 has a manmade pond in front of the green. I'm usually a big fan of water hazards on golf courses but this one just seems out of place when compared to the rest of the course. We played with a member who informed us that the pond was installed when the course was purchased by a Japanese consortium and they wanted a coy pond. Condition: Great condition from tee to green Verdict: A real hidden gem

Camberley Heath Golf Club is a an often overlooked course located in Surrey, offering a tranquil and challenging round of golf. Designed by the legendary Harry Colt, the course is steeped in history yet seamlessly integrates modern touches that enhance the overall experience. Despite being surrounded by housing and dissected by Prior Road, the course maintains a secluded and peaceful atmosphere. This is largely thanks to the mature trees that line the fairways, creating a sense of privacy on every hole. A tunnel under the road ensures uninterrupted play, a practical and well-executed solution to the course's unique layout. The clubhouse is a striking modern facility built to replace the original structure. While it may not evoke the traditional charm often associated with historic courses, it provides top-notch amenities for golfers to enjoy before and after their rounds. The course itself is an absolute pleasure to play, featuring some genuinely memorable par 3s that test precision and creativity. None of the greens are flat, and their undulating surfaces add another layer of challenge. Even following recent maintenance, the greens offered a glimpse of their potential when running at full speed, highlighting the difficulty they present to golfers of all levels. Camberley Heath’s thoughtful design, well-maintained course, and serene environment make it a standout destination for golfers seeking a mix of history and modernity. Whether you’re local or travelling to the area, this is a course that deserves a spot on your list.

Camberley Heath goes under the radar because it is surrounded by loudly acclaimed Surrey neighbours.

But I am delighted to report that we enjoyed a wonderful day thanks to the gorgeous course and truly excellent company.

We arranged a last-minute round and from the first cheery greeting from the bar team, we knew we had made a great choice.

The lunchtime pork and chorizo ragu, digested in its beautifully appointed clubhouse, was scrumptious and the view onto the course on a gloriously sunny day was dazzling.

After we were sated, we adjourned to a course which is abundant with attractive but deadly heather and such a high variety of holes that the golfer needs to have all elements of their game in top shape.

Camberley Heath is not all about big hitting – indeed, its short par-fours are arguably its most thrilling aspect

Our host proclaimed the long par-three eighth as his favourite hole – a downhill par-three of 220 yards. I could only conclude that he must have masochistic tendencies as my ball found the bunker in front of the target.

We were then befuddled to find that it had disappeared. Had a bird snatched it or had Dr Who’s Tardis swooped?

I made one final flick at the heather above the trap and the ball rolled down into it. I hadn’t made contact but it clearly moved. Any thoughts on the rules? We didn’t, so I just played on.

Harry Colt’s mark is all over the gorgeous par-three 14th in front of the clubhouse and practice green.

I counted seven bunkers around the target and could only watch in admiration as our playing partners threatened the flag from the tee.

The denouement is the remarkable 18th and its hill of heather before an ascent to a sloping green in front of the clubhouse veranda.

It is a closing hole worthy of any top course and our host’s putt in from the rear of the green for a birdie completed a belting day.

Camberley Heath was in top nick with tricky but fair greens, lush fairways and an exciting variety of holes.

It made for a memorable game with lovely folk and no wonder Colt fans think so highly of it.

The natural contours of the Surrey Countryside have been used to enhance the course with demanding holes requiring accurate and thoughtful shots through avenues of pine and over acres of lush heather. The fairways have matured over the years, although they retain many of the original features having benefited from a sustainable programme of forestry and heathland conservation management using modern Green Keeping methods. The sandy heath land course offers excellent drainage resulting in fine year round golfing conditions.
