About Hollinwell
Set in the gently rolling hills of North Nottinghamshire, in the heart of Robin Hood County, Hollinwell offers one of the very finest examples of heathland golf in the UK & Ireland. Formerly known as Notts Golf Club, Hollinwell is a great test, and we would extend a warm welcome to visitors from far and near. Come and view Robin Hoods Seat, take a drink from the well that gives the course its name and soak up the atmosphere that only comes with a course of great stature with a wonderful history.

Nottingham Golf Club at Hollinwell dates back to 1901 and is a classic Heathland course. The name comes from a medieval well that was used by local Monks. The well is still there in front of the 8th tee, complete with drinking cup and the spring water tastes fantastic! Entering the course down a long driveway, it is hidden away in a quiet bowl, which makes excellent use of it's gently sloping terrain (albeit there's a steep climb up the narrow par 4, 11th, with the downhill done on the Par 3 13th, a par 3 which can play up to 240 yards and provides a spectacular vista over the course back to the clubhouse) There are no weak holes, but the course's standout is the number and variety of long par 4 holes. Of particular note are the 460 yard 2nd, gently doglegging left, the 450 yard 4th with a well bunkered fairway, 470 yard 12th featuring a long.partially blind second shot to a green set into a ledge and finally the 460 yard 18th, with an uphill 2nd shot to a sloping green in front of the clubhouse. The course had suffered from the extremely dry 2025 summer, with large areas of fairway with almost no grass. That is temporary, and don't let it put you off a lovely golf course which is worth a detour if you're driving up or down England. Well worth the short detour off the M1 motorway!

Tough track which requires plotting around. Correct lines off the tees are needed depending on the ability and accuracy of the players. Eight of us travelled there in July ’24 and the overall reviews were positive. Good opening and closing section. This course is on a massive site so expect long transitions from greens to tees.

Outstanding in every way and by some way the best inland course in the UK. Tough but fair.

Hollinwell Golf Club offers a challenging course with a great layout that tests your golf skills. The clubhouse overlooking the 18th green is a nice spot to relax, and the old well provided a handy water source on a hot day. However, the fast-paced greens, recently maintained, made for a tricky scoring day. Overall, top course, great views and it's a lovely place to golf especially if you bring your A game.

Hollinwell
The Club has a long and distinguished heritage which dates from the club’s origin in 1887 to the current heathland course at Hollinwell in 1901 which sits sublimely in the heart of Byron country within the historic boundary of Sherwood Forest. The course at Hollinwell was designed by Willie Park Jnr and opened in 1901, the same year as two other famous courses he designed, Sunningdale and Huntercombe. When the course was originally laid out the Guttie ball was in common use, however, only a couple of years later the Haskell rubber cored ball which could be hit much further, became far more popular. The original course was in the region of 5,500 yards and was soon considered too short. In October 1902 J H Taylor and the club's professional Tom Williamson made recommendations for improvements, respectful to the original design of Park.
