Located on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, Yelverton Golf Club is a moorland course with strong natural features and historic charm. It takes full advantage of the rugged terrain, including old mine workings, rocky outcrops, and wide, open views across the Devon and Dartmoor countryside. The layout offers good variety with changes in elevation and clever use of the landscape, making each hole feel distinct. The setting is both scenic and exposed, and the course retains a strong traditional feel without being overly punishing. A course you can plot your way around, with danger coming if you get too confident. Despite playing in cold winter conditions, the course was in solid shape and enjoyable throughout. Local members were welcoming and informative, which added to the experience. Yelverton is a great example of a lesser-known course that punches above its weight and is worth seeking out if you're in the area or heading back from Cornwall.

Echt een hele leuk baan in een schitterende omgeving. Mooie greens en (door paarden en schapen) goed onderhouden fairways. Brede fairways, omgeven door heide. Kom maar liever niet in de rough! Diepe bunkers waar goed uit te komen is. Leuke putting green. Helaas geen driving range. Heb genoten!

In the beautiful Devonshire moorland countryside is this 18 hole William Herbert Fowler golf course design. Cleverly utilising the naturally occurring tin mines of old as unsuspecting hollows and mounds to catch out even the best of golfers. With vista views over Dartmoor and Cornwall playing Yelverton in Summer 2019 was a delight.

Herbert Fowler was best known as a cricketer. In 1879 he was bitten by the golf bug when playing Westward Ho! In 1904 he turned his hand to Yelverton.

At 600 feet above sea level, Yelverton Golf Club is situated on Roborough Common, land once owned by Sir Francis Drake, on the edge of Dartmoor. With unique features such as the man-made Devonport Leat built in 1793 to bring water into Plymouth.

Wandering around the course are the Dartmoor ponies. Standing on a few of the tees at Yelverton, I was blown away by the design of each hole stretched out ahead of me. All retained the interest. The greens played well too, even the practise green in front of the clubhouse was inviting.

After our game we sat in the clubhouse chatting to the members and staff, enjoying a sandwich as I pondered the only if's, the great shots and the diary so I can figure out when I can go back again? .

Lovely golf course not far from Plymouth. A couple of quirky holes which need to be played a few times to get a good score.

Yelverton Golf Club is a delightful moorland course, designed by the renowned golf architect Herbert Fowler with many interesting features. These include old mine workings, a “Leat” (artificial watercourse dug into the ground) which was built in the 1790’s to provide water to Plymouth from Dartmoor. Fowler also added many sizable banks and mounds with a limited number of fairway bunkers, this was typical of his trademark design. The generous fairways are lined with many hazards including, heather, gorse, bracken and small thorn bushes, the penalties for missing the fairways are substantial. The geographic location also adds to its natural features and relatively easy walking landscape. The course shares its fairways with the native Dartmoor Ponies, sheep and cattle.
