Woodbury Park Golf Club

Ik verbleef in het hotel en kreeg daardoor ook korting op de greenfee (£50). De driving range met toptracers was een stukje lopen. Leuke toeving die toptracers maar het minimaal aantal ballen was 50 en voor £7,50 wel aan de dure kant. Hole 1 is een dogleg links met een droge sloot voor de green, bij hole 2 een smalle afslag donwhill waar je het (wederom droge) slootje overigens niet ziet liggen vanaf de tee. Ik speelde alleen maar zelfs als je de baan niet kent is hij goed te spelen. Op hole 8 (de lange par 4, SI 1) maakte ik een keurige par. De hole is moeilijk door zijn lengte en het water voor de green. De baan, met hoogteverschillen, ligt er prachtig bij met goede en snelle greens. De greens zijn over het algemeen redelijk vlak. Hole 11 een par 4 van 410 meter downhill. De 15e is een par 3 van 200+(!) meter. Dat moet dan bijna een par 4 zijn. Hole 17 een smalle afslag met blinde tweede slag, een erg mooie hole. De laatste hole is een par 3 over het water voor het clubhuis. Mooie slothole. Woodbury Park is een erg mooie, afwisselende baan, in geweldige conditie. Zeker een aanrader om te spelen.

On approach to Woodbury you know you’re in for a treat. The long winding driveway through the trees opening out onto the car park and with the large clubhouse imposing itself at the back and the hotel and spa to the right gives you a warm feeling.

There are two courses at Woodbury. The Oaks which is the 18 hole championship course and the Acorns which is a 9 hole course and a challenge in its own right.

The Oaks is a well designed and challenging golf course. Don’t take my word for it, cause when you’re standing on the 2nd tee looking at the double fairway with drop from the first down to the second and then the dog leg right to the unsighted green you know you have to bring your best game to get round in a decent score.

All the holes are well thought out and you have to think your way round a lot of them as there are several risk and reward holes out there. After reaching the turn the pleasant halfway house is always a happy sight although not always open on the off season.

There is water on some holes and most notably the 18th which is a short par 3 finishing hole over water. Don’t be fooled by the length. Too short and your ball will be going for a swim. To long and it’s fallen away down the hill and back off toward the 17th tee.

All in all a lovely course with some lovely views and a test for all levels of golfer.

During winter the course can become quite boggy so spring, or autumn is the best time to play as during the summer you will struggle to find a tee time unless you’re a member.

The clubhouse of old skool yet modern and the food is of good quality. The pro shop is well stocked although one of the shop assistants seems to think he owns the course and can be a little brash.

Always a pleasure to play this course which only get better the warmer the weather gets.

Le parcours est de grande qualité. Joué en août, il était en excellent état. Valloné, boisé c'est un parcours inland très agréable.

Best played in the summer because it can get awfully wet underfoot. Needs to mature. Has good apres golf facilities.

Shop is leuk ingericht en een setje is zo gehuurd al was de kwaliteit niet al te best maar dit vergeet je snel als je de baan in gaat.

Een prachtige golfbaan met mooi uitzicht.
