Mottram Hall Golf

Mottram Hall Golf Course is a resort-style parkland layout designed by Dave Thomas and opened in 1991. Set in the grounds of the impressive Mottram Hall hotel, the course stretches to just over 7,000 yards and plays as a par 72. The front nine begins on the northern side of the estate and features a series of long, straight, relatively flat holes. While not the most visually striking stretch, it sets the stage for a more dynamic and engaging back nine. After several days of heavy rainfall, course conditions were surprisingly good. Both greens and fairways held up well, showcasing the club’s solid drainage and maintenance standards. The back nine is where the course truly comes alive, with elevation changes adding variety and visual interest. The closing stretch builds momentum nicely, with the 18th hole rising up toward the front of Mottram Hall itself, a scenic and fitting end to the round. Mottram Hall offers a solid resort golf experience, particularly suited to those looking for a well-maintained (but not over strenuous) full-length course with on-site facilities. A good option for last minute round in the area, especially during wetter months when other nearby courses may struggle with playability.

One of the best value courses in the area. The front 9 is decent enough but things really get interesting on the back, where the holes weave through the trees. Maintenance was okay for the time of year (December) but in the past have found it to be generally good. Nice putting green and driving range and the hotel provides a good spa.

The course really is a game of 2 halves, the front 9 is very flat and the back nine which in my opinion is the much better half is up and down with much better design, being a De Vere club things are not cheap, £5 to hire a pull a long trolley and £3 for just 25 range balls, there is a short pitching green and decent sized putting green. The pro shop has everything you would need but again you will will pay top dollar for everything.
