Another golf course that is beautifully located in the rolling landscape of the Peak District, and makes good use of it. The Club is part of a nice hotel/wellness complex. The golf clubhouse was small but friendly, and had ample buggies and trolleys available. No driving range as often around here, so limited warm-up (which showed in one of us driving it almost onto the car park on hole 1). The course starts with 4 gentle holes (birdie birdie start !), although hole 4 as a par 5 requires some serious thinking for the second shot, as the approach to the hole is steep downhill with run offs to a wall and OOB behind the green. Afterwards quite a few holes with nice elevation changes, slight doglegs and some severe sloping left/right on the fairways that keep you challenged. Some higher rough around, so lost a few balls (but found more). One or two holes that were a bit strange if you play them the first time. The greens are again great, not easy to read, good speed and hard to stop the ball. Fairways were hard, and sadly we had to stop at hole 15 due to 'horizontal rain'. Had dinner afterwards (and were offered to take a shower in the wellness, which was very nice!).

Beautiful setting in the grounds of Shrigley Hall, a country house hotel. Ample parking, but poor signage to the Pro shop. Friendly staff who warned us that we were sandwiched between two societies and that play was expected to be slow. We were fortunate enough to be able to tee-off a little earlier than our booked time and a slow four-ball waved us through after the first. However, after that we (2 players with a buggy) were stuck behind walking society four-balls who weren't playing well and were taking ages over every shot, on the greens etc. There was no course marshal, even though the electronic map, etc in the buggy warned us for being slow and said the marshals would move people on. 5 hours for the round, was very frustrating. IMHO society players should be polite or be told to be polite and let much faster players play through... The course was in good condition, especially the greens. The first 5 holes look like they are a later addition and don't have much character, but the rest of the course has some lovely looking and interesting holes. Pleasant small bar overlooking the 18th green - however, it closed very early (5.30pm on a Saturday). There were 30+ golfers there, who were all frustrated - I don't get it, they are literally turning down earning money! Note - there is a bar in the hotel itself, but obviously you can't wear golf shoes and there was also a large wedding party there so it would have been awkward for a load of golfers to go there.

Great course for weekend or 2 day break, lots of interesting and challenging holes, both long and short. Greens in good condition.

A varied and dynamic parkland course set in the grounds of Shrigley Hall Hotel. Endure the first couple of holes to be treated to elevated tee shots and large, sweeping fairways. The stretch from 7-11 and 13-17 are always great fun. Maintenance generally good though can be a bit hit and miss. A great golf course to try in the region.

We spelen hier twee achtereenvolgende dagen. Gelukkig hadden we beide dagen prima weer bij het spelen. Handicap wordt nu 10.9, helaas.
