About Salobre Golf Resort Gran Canaria

Salobre Golf Resort is a fun course for all golfers, and the round will provide you with a great variety of shots and situations. The course is similar in appearance to the desert courses of Arizona in the USA in terms of design and the natural landscape which surrounds it, which is full of 'cardones' a plant similar to the cactus but uniquely indigenous to the Canary Islands. Salobre Golf Resort is totally integrated into the landscape of the south of the island. Its raised location offers spectacular views of the sea and the mountains, highlighting the contrast between the green of the course and the arid surroundings of the volcanic earth giving the course a unique feel. The installations satisfy even the most demanding player in an area protected from the winds and with only thirty hours of rainfall a year. The layout of the fairways and the green are a challenge to players who will delight in the sheer fun of the course design.

The Old Course at Salobre is a solid layout set in a rugged valley landscape. It doesn’t quite reach the heights of Anfi Tauro but it’s comfortably better, in my view, than nearby Meloneras and Maspalomas. The course was in excellent condition when we played, with superb greens. True, quick & very well presented. I preferred the front nine, which has a bit more character and variety, but there are good holes throughout and we walked off the 18th feeling we’d had a fun round. It’s a decent test and an enjoyable game in an impressive setting. There are a few holes where you really need to find the landing zones off the tee or you’re simply finished. Personally I don’t mind that, although others might. We played with two lovely higher-handicap players who sensibly chose appropriate tees on those holes. They were staying at the Salobre hotel and said the stay & play packages offer good value. They also spoke highly of the hotel itself, which looked very good from what we saw. We also managed six holes of the New 9 hole Course before the weather turned cold and we called it a day. It felt a mix of some spectacular holes & a couple of blander ones. The 1st is an excellent and challenging dogleg that sets a strong visual tone. The 3rd is slightly mad in the best possible way. Dramatic, quirky and great fun in a social game, even if there’s a fair chance you may not finish the hole with the same ball you started it with. The 4th climbs steeply uphill and felt a bit of a slog, but the 5th immediately redeems things with an excellent elevated tee shot and a much more interesting layout. Seeing the remaining 3 holes from a distance it felt like a decent & fun 9 hole loop. The sort of place that’s great for a relaxed knock with friends… though not somewhere to mark a card. A very good resort course, offering 27 holes and well worth playing if you’re staying nearby. Gran Canaria is such a good winter destination from many parts of Europe.

Salobre New is not comparable with the rest of the courses in the Canary Islands. Its unequalled course has been designed by Ron Kirby to fit into its volcanic rock surroundings, making it a challenge. Never before has a golf course captured the natural beauty of the south of Gran Canaria like this one, making it an absolute must for every player who loves to play golf at unique locations. Salobre New introduced this October the new concept TEE IT FORWARD by the PGA of America which encourages all golfers to play the course at a lengh that is aligned with their average driving distance. Golfers can speed up play by utilizing tees that provide the greatest playability and enjoyment.

Salobre Old has been intelligently designed by Roland Favré in order to best appreciate the typical terraced valleys of the south of Gran Canaria, offering our visitors magnificent views both over the sea and the mountains. With its varied and enjoyable route, this is a course which should not be missed by golfers at any level.
