Golf & Country Club Bucharest

Aangepaste korte versie: Bucharest Golf Club is een goed onderhouden en prettige golfbaan. De baan is relatief nieuw. De bouw startte in 2021, het inzaaien was klaar in 2022 en de eerste holes zijn sinds 2023 bespeelbaar. (Jhgd) Ik speelde op een woensdag en het was heerlijk rustig, waardoor we ontspannen konden spelen. De fairways waren erg mooi en in uitstekende conditie. Ook de greens waren netjes, vlak en niet langzaam, al was nog licht zichtbaar dat ze recent waren gesneden. De bunkers waren goed onderhouden, met voldoende zand. De baan heeft enkele uitdagende holes, maar blijft toegankelijk door de brede fairways. De holes zijn niet extreem lang, maar de omgeving en het spelplezier maken dit tot een fijne golfervaring. De faciliteiten zijn nog in ontwikkeling. Er is nog geen vast clubhuis; het restaurant zit nu in een dome-tent en het secretariaat en de shop in tijdelijke units. Zodra de vergunning rond is, zal er naar verwachting een echt clubhuis worden gebouwd. Mijn beoordeling: gemiddeld 8 tot 8,5.

Bucharest Golf & Country Club has been opened 4 years ago by Irish developer Mr. Alex Brett. Like National Golf Club, it is part of a residential compound project rather than golf club only. The construction for villas or condos have just begun with ground breaking. When it comes to club, we have two sides of the coin. Non-golfing facilities are humble at the moment. The pro shop is a tiny building while the restaurant is a big bubble tent. The owner will soon begin constructing a high profile clubhouse. Meanwhile, anything about golf seems very nice. The course is well designed and nicely laid out over a rich plot of land. It is not a flat course. It is a mid-hilly course with some elevations. Some holes are doglegs, some are straight. Some fairways are open on the sides and some are surrounded by trees. However, this month with spring coming the roughs have suddenly grown a lot. If you fade or hook, even if you see where it bounced, it is difficult to find your ball. So, if you are gonna play nowadays, bring some spare balls. Even if you find your ball, playing towards the green is not possible with those dense and long roughs. Thus, you should be content just to get back to fairway with some distance recovered. The course condition is fairly good. The fairway grass was a bit thick. Greens were average speed. I have to say I was there during season change. So I assume conditions will be somewhat better soon. They also have very good practice facilities. Driving range and golf academy is sponsored by DP World Romania. Next to that, there is short game practice area and putting green. The club is 30 to 45 mins driving distance from downtown Bucharest and is only 15 mins away from Otopeni International Airport. Last but not least, don’t be mislead by slope and course rating. The course is more challenging (especially when windy) and entertaining than those numbers suggest.
