Galway Bay Golf Resort

En direkt vindpinad golfbana, direkt vid vattenbandet med atlanten bara några meter från fairway. Roligt upplägg på hålen även om dom första fyra spelas inland men resterande är havets närvaro betydande.

Breda och välskötta fairways, hårda och snabba greener. Semi ruffen tjock men inte för tjock. Enda riktiga minuset var den totala avsaknaden av banguide. Dom har en utförlig guide digitalt i receptionen på en digital tv skärm men den är ju svår att ta med sig på banan.

Trevligt att man fick vatten under rundan!

A fantastic round of golf in a challenging and VERY windy environment. The course is immaculate, and clearly very well cared for. Lots of mowing out off fairways to help locate stray balls and speed up play which is always very welcome.

What was not appreciated was the iron-clad and totally inflexible attitude of the booking agents, leadingcourses. com, who refused to even consider a refund when one of our number sustained an injury 3 days before... A little more flexibility and engagement with your customers would not go amiss...!

However, ignoring that, the round itself and the golf course were superb.

Arriving at Galway Bay, I genuinely had no idea what I might expect, I don’t always like to research where I’m going so it doesn’t cloud my personal judgement or generate any preconceptions. So I didn’t know if this course was a links, parkland or heathland. ⁠

I was playing some of the courses along the Wild Atlantic Way with a few other journalists when we stopped at Galway Bay. A warm welcome was upon us in no time in a bustling modern clubhouse having a quick warm up before playing. When I say warm up, I mean drink in huge coffee cups, not on the driving range! ⁠

The 12th, a great hole playing quite differently from the forward and back tees. 384/469 yards SI 14/1 and a par 5 forward, par 4 back tees. It is a hole to bat cleverly and play for position. A dog leg right as it drops down the hill to the green with the Atlantic in front of you as you take on the water to the green. This hole is often featured amongst the top 18 holes in Irish golf. With views to the Burren, Co Clare; one of six nations parks in Ireland, the Aran Islands, Connemara and Galway City. ⁠

This is a challenging course that makes use of the natural features of the land. Fast, shallow greens can make it very tricky but the fairways are wide and fairly forgiving. Very friendly staff and members here too.
