Sira Beach Golf & Country Club

I had heard about Sira Beach Golf & Country Club on Lombok for a long time, but had never had the opportunity to play it. Located on the north-west coast of Lombok, close to the famous Gili islands of Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan, it is one of those courses that I was very curious to finally experience. The course was designed by Peter Thomson, Michael Wolveridge and Ross Perrett, following the natural contours of the site. citeturn0search0turn0search2 I was staying on Gili Air and decided to make the journey to Sira Beach by boat at sunrise. I was dropped off directly on the beach beside the 3rd green and 4th tee. Standing there in the early morning, looking at the landscaping and the course stretching out around me, was a fantastic introduction. The condition of the course was also a very pleasant surprise. The maintenance was very good, and I particularly liked the quality and shaping of the green complexes. In fact, the overall quality of the course surprised me. It is a very attractive golf course in a spectacular setting, and I couldn't help thinking that if you transported this course to the Dominican Republic, you could easily imagine a hefty green fee. After being picked up by one of the greenkeepers and taken to the clubhouse, I had a coffee before starting my round. There are several rental sets available, although the quality varies, so with the help of the caddie master, we put together a suitable set for me. I was then accompanied by an excellent caddie who knew the greens very well and was also helpful with shot selection and positioning. The front nine brings you close to the beach, with the 3rd green and 4th tee in particular creating a beautiful connection between the golf course and the coastline. The back nine offers a completely different perspective, with some excellent views towards the mountains. The contrast between the coastal holes and the mountain scenery gives the course a good sense of variety. After the round, I enjoyed a shower and lunch in the clubhouse. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming throughout my visit. The resort currently has 36 rooms, with plans to increase this to 66 as part of the ongoing development of the property. The course and resort are now being developed under HOUSE Sira Lombok, with the aim of creating a more complete golf-resort experience. Overall, Sira Beach was another very pleasant surprise. It is a beautiful, well-maintained course in an outstanding location, with excellent green complexes, good caddie service and a very friendly atmosphere. If you are staying on one of the Gili islands, I would definitely recommend making the effort to come across to Lombok and play it.

Hyggelig bane med mange spændende huller. Greens er langsomme (løber omkring 7) men er rimelig ens og kuperet. Caddies søde og hjælpsomme. Servicen i klubben er super fin.

Le parcours est à faire pour le Fun si vous êtes dans le coin. Assez agréable à jouer avec plusieurs trous en bord de mer/plage. L'entretien est correct sans plus. L'accueil est sympa mais les installations inexistantes, le clubhouse se résume à une tente et quelques tables. Le prix est élevé pour le service. Les greens sont en gazon artificiel.

Bij aankomst word je gastvrij ontvangen in een veredelde tent. Het clubhuis word niet meer gebruikt na de aardbeving van 2018. Bij het starten staat je golfcart klaar met zoals in Azië gebruikelijk een bestuurster erbij. Voor mij hoeft dat niet. Heeft geen toegevoegde waarde en het kost je een aardig bedrag meer naast je zeer flinke greenfee prijs. Ik was totaal 1.600.000 roepies kwijt. (incl het cart meisje en ballen) Zo’n slordige 120 euro wat eigenlijk voor zo’n land veels te veel is. Na 15.30 is het voordeliger. Maar ja. Weinig keuze en je bent op vakantie.

De baan is redelijk goed bijgehouden wetende dat het hier rond augustus niet regent. Ik had het gras geel verwacht maar het was mooi groen. Ze sproeien 2x per dag. De grens zijn razendsnel. Bunkers soms mooi wit zand en soms hard donker zand. De baan is hard dus je bal schiet flink door. Het is prachtig om op een tropische baan te spelen. Palmbomen met groen gras en witte bunkers. Wat wil je nog meer. Geweldig. Vooral hole 12 en 13 die eindigt op de oceaan. Prachtig, met uitzicht op de gillie eilanden. Deze baan speel ik graag nog een keer. Doen!

I truly appreciated to be picked up for free at the harbor (as I was coming from Gili Air to play), this is a really good service even if it is only 10min drive from the golf course.

Talking about the golf course itself, the clubhouse is inexistent: a tent with tables and chairs. From this tent you have to take the cart to go to the lockers which are not in good shape...

Too bad because the course has a great potential with its great location, you play some holes just right to the beach, sceneries are beautiful, some interesting strategies to think about and so on...

But the lack of maintenance (especially for greens) and the price are making this golf course not so worth to play.

Even for 50 balls on the range : 3+€, more expensive than in Europe. I could accept to pay this price if the driving range was in a proper shape with proper balls to hit.

If the staff could speak english a little bit more, it would be appreciated too!

To finish on a good point : I appreciated being able to rent good golf clubs (Mizuno MBs, with steal & stiff shafts, Golf Pride new decade grips, Ping driver and putter, Titleist SW) even if I had to insist (a lot) to have them as they first tried to rent the worst.
