Mount Edgecombe Country Club

Course one has improved dramatically over the years with excellent greens and tee boxes . Generous fairways with little tough but many trees . Course two has recently had a face lift with new bunkers and tee boxes , contrasting features to The Woods (Course 1 ) it has very interesting holes and a super halfway house !

Mount Edgecombe is a pretty golfing set up in one of the more premium estates in Durban. It has two courses, The Woods (One) and The Lakes (Two). I played The Woods which is the longer of the two. We played here after a few days of heavy rain so the fairways were a little wet but to be fair they’d drained pretty well.

The course otherwise is in great condition, the greens were pretty fast and the pace of play was pretty good. The par 3 15th is a tough little island green which is a cool hole to play. Otherwise it is a fairly open course without too much bush so you’d struggle to lose a ball.

There’s a really nice clubhouse, with a pretty festive atmosphere. I think a lot of business gets done on this course.

The facilities here are great. There’s a driving range where you can hit off the grass and also separate pitching area and then two large putting greens.

Der Mount Edgecombe Country Club liegt in den sanften Hügeln der KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. Im Hinterland der Umhlanga Rocks liegen die Parklandkurse One (Woods) und Two (Lakes). Das Layout des Wood Kurses ist nicht allzu aufregend und wird auch durch die Häuser an den Bahnen nicht interessanter. Da ich in kurzen Hosen spielen wollte, wurde ich gezwungen im Pro-Shop knielange Socken zu kaufen - englische Tradition in Ehren - aber so etwas habe ich sonst nirgendwo in Südafrika oder sonst auf der Welt erlebt. Ein besonderes Erlebnis mit eine Caddy, der selber Scratch-Golf spielt, auf der Runde zu sein. Kann gut zu Fuss bewältigt werden und ist für alle Spieltärken geeignet.

Mount Edgecombe Country Club is located in the rolling hills of the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. The One (Woods) and Two (Lakes) parkland courses are located in the hinterland of Umhlanga Rocks. The layout of the Wood course is not too exciting and is not more interesting because of the houses at the tracks. Since I wanted to play in shorts, I was forced to buy knee-length socks in the pro-shop - English tradition in honour - but I haven't experienced anything like it anywhere else in South Africa or in the world. A special experience with a caddy, who plays scratch golf himself, to be on the round. Can be easily mastered on foot and is suitable for all playing strengths.
