This is one great golf course. The Achimota Golf Club is about 20 driving minutes away from the city center of Accra (Oxford Street). The golf course is well designed and kept in good condition. This is also possible due to a fairway sprinkler system. Compared to european standards the quality of the fairways, greens, and tee boxes is average. For Ghana, and probably the Rest of the Gold Coast, it is great (I played 2 other golf courses there). As one can see on my pictures (posted a few) the holes are well described by boards. The course is well constructed into the nature and a bit hilly. From some tee boxes and holes you get great views over parts of Accra and the outskirts. There is a nice halfway house with plenty of beverages and water to choose from and a toilet. The facilities of the clubhouse are high standard. There is also a well equipped Pro Shop. Unfortunately the driving range is a bit further away (ca. 700-800m) up the road on which the course is. One better takes a cap / car there. The fee for the driving range is 15 Cedi, which is ca. 2-3 € depending on the exchange rate. A bucket of balls costs 2 Cedi.
The greenfee for the 18 hole course is during the week 180 Cedi, which is 25 - 35 € depending on the exchange rate. On the weekends, I think, it is 230 Cedi.
When you play, you usually have to take a caddy. Which is definitely good. They know the course pretty well, are extremely friendly, and also take care of your gear and clubs with cleaning after the round. You pay them ca. 2-3 Cedis per hole,30 Cedis for the round, which is okay.
You do not need to make a tee time in advance, because it is usually not busy.
The staff is extremely friendly and makes you feel welcome at any time.
If you want, a club pro can join your round. You tip him 40 - 70 Cedi after the round. It is definitely worth playing with a club pro, because they play great golf and can also give you some insights and hints about the holes, where to hit, etc. I took one for my round.
Playing Achimota and the whole experience there was great. I definitely go back there on my next trip to Ghana!
