Observatory Golf Club

Played at this course a couple times. Condition of the course is really not good, fairways are like rough, greens are fury, and all features and the likes appear unkept. However the design of the course is really good, it is clear there is lack of funding. The course features a couple narrow tee shots, and narrow holes in general all round the course, but if played right can be scorable, however this is hard to appreciate due to poor conditions. Moreover staff from my experiences have been super nice and have been a pleasure to interact with. Although there is good to the course, unfortunately the bad outweighs the good. This being said I would not feel comfortable recommending this course to other golfers.

My previous experience was a course that was in direct straits... I was pleasantly surprised when I played today..course was in good nick and I believe offers good value for an inner city course!

Het personeel is apatisch en heeft weinig zin iets voor je te doen, zowel in het clubhuis als in de pro-shop, die laatste verdient het woord pro-shop eigenlijk niet. De baan bestaat uit twee delen, de eerste 9 holes zijn smal, hebben grote hoogteverschillen, zijn niet vlak en onverwachte waterhindernissen, dus niet prettig spelen. De tweede 9 daarentegen zijn goed speelbaar. Het onderhoud van de paden is een ramp dus rijd iedereen over de baan. Het is zeker geen aanrader, er zijn vele mooie banen in Joburg die je liever speelt.

Being a long-standing member, I love this club and the course. Unlike most modern courses, where one struggles to remember even one hole afterwards, at Obs, nearly every hole will leave you with a lasting and distinctive impression.

This is a definite for all South African golfers. The fairways are tough and challenging, make sure of your club selection as the distance can be deceiving. Real value for money course.
