Wedgewood Golf and Country Estate

Reasonable golf course for reasonable price. But no more than that. Current rating of No. 9 for the greens on SA Top 100 site is far beyond reality. Greens were green and with interesting slopes, but for such a rating they were way too slow. No tee signs or even tee numbers at the tees and no explanation for distances exept for the Par 3s. Especially on holes with huge gorges such as 9 and 18, a board with distances would be useful. Signs and better explanations where to go, in particular on 10th green, would value up the course by far. Same for the clubhouse entrance and parking - no signs, yet. All golf carts with combustion engine. Halfway house nice, sitting area close to greens 9 and 18 as well. No cooling boxes with cover, though. Excellent second 9, rather then first 9.

Voor ons de ontdekking van deze trip, op een half uur rijden van het centrum van Port Elisabeth in de buurt Greenbushes. Een rit waarbij je deze golfbaan niet verwacht! Een bijzonder fraaie, zeer gevarieerde 18 holes baan met elke hole anders, grote hoogteverschillen, waterhindernissen, ondulaties, grote bomen, brede fairways, krachtige bunkers etc. Lopend niet aan te raden of met draagtas! Een genot om te spelen aangezien elke hole je serieuze aandacht en inzet vraagt. De routeaanduiding kon hier en daar beter. De greens zijn hard en snel. Een extra reservebal is aan te raden. Clubhuis eenvoudig en vrij nieuw.

Back after 3 years at the Wedgewood golf course. the reception and staff are still very friendly and easy to talk and laugh is possible. The course is easy to reach coming from the western cape N2 main road and a large shopping Centre in the neighborhood. The undulated course and very nice greens are very well maintained and recommend when in the area to enjoy a round in Wedgewood.

Wedgewood Estate Golf club is outside Port Elizabeth and close to the newly opened Baywest shopping Mall. As already indicated the Estate has many houses bordering the fairways. The practice facilities as the driving range is not close to the clubhouse and 1st tee and therefore not often use for greenfee players. The 18 holes parkland course itself is nice with undulated fairways and many water hazards. Large trees next the fairways and bunkers are When playing for the 1st time a golfcart is maybe a correct decision but walking with trolley is possible. The maintenance can be improved but irrigation system is available. The clubhouse looks funny from the outside but a nice terrace with views on hole 9 and 18 is always nice to see other players coming in. Worth a visit for golf and shopping.

Hidden gem! Prachtig clubhuis, vriendelijke mensen, heerlijke sandwich bij halfway house. Baan onderhoud is geweldig. Uitdagende holes, heel afwisselend. Super greens.
