Öster: En fantastisk bana och tourig som sig bör! Man måste spela med huvudet och inte gå på de optiska illustrationerna, tex hål 5-6, som man kämpar emot. Bör nog spelas många gånger med fokus för att förstå helt. Greenerna var katastrof pga djup-pipning (men shoppen sa att dom var bra men nej absolut inte) Hoppiga och mkt ojämna, hade väntat mig mkt mer på den avdelningen. Bara 300 resucerat, borde vara 50% när dom är så dåliga. Övningsområdet på östra sidan om rangen. ”bara för medlemmar” är ju löjligt, hade gärna tränat där, men snobberiet är påtagligt iom det. Om man nu betalar 1500 för greenfee borde man få full tillgång. Superfina omklädningsrum och restaurangens mat var mkt bra. Rangen bra, bollar bra, puttytor bra. Trevligt med starter. Kommer såklart åter när det inte blåser 22 i byarna. Väster klar till våren 27.

Öster (East) by Stenson was the inaugural redesigned course at Österåkers Golfklubb, 25 miles north of central Stockholm. By 2026, it will be complemented by Väster (West), designed by the former Open champion and his partner, Christian Lundin. This vast complex, situated next to the 276 motorway, is part of a club that fosters golf development to the highest standard, with meticulous attention to service. With 2,000 members, the superb, Trackman-enhanced practice area was teeming with golfers of all ages honing their skills. Meanwhile, the modern clubhouse, where we enjoyed an invigorating lunch, exuded an American country club ambience. We were fortunate to play with two members who guided us around the Öster. Its design evokes a blend of Robert Trent Jones and American TPC courses. As it's a new course, the 7,000 planted trees are still saplings, and the rough remains low, meaning its true character will evolve. The ninth is a picturesque hole. Water lines the entire left side and a trio of bunkers on the right. The green is cut against the lake, its entrance narrowed by a sand trap. I found the latter and was too tentative with my recovery, fearing over-hitting into the water. The halfway hut at Österåkers Golfklubb is undoubtedly a contender for the best we've experienced. It's akin to a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, and we thoroughly enjoyed a cold beer on a hot day. The back nine on the Öster is stronger than the outward section. The 16th is a cracking short dogleg par-four with a lake on the left feeding into a stream that runs diagonally across the fairway. Thus, club selection and precision off the tee are paramount before attacking a green that falls from back to front. The 17th is equally challenging, with another mid-fairway brook coming into play before approaching a perched green with a dramatic fall-off to the right. We then ascended an escarpment to the tees for the 18th—a stunning par-five with water all down the right and bunkers awaiting those who bail out to the left. One of our hosts thought he had found the lake, but his ball was in the reeds. He managed a fantastic recovery, leading to a par that evened a great game. We thoroughly enjoyed Öster By Stenson, but couldn't help feeling it will truly come into its own as it matures. We eagerly anticipate what the West course will bring.

Ik kan alleen oordelen over de oefenfaciliteiten en de Henrik Stenson course. Bij aankomst werden we erg vriendelijk ontvangen door het personeel. Na het afrekenen van de greenfee ontvang je een kleine goodie bag met een aantal tees, een marker en een pitchfork. Met in totaal drie greens aan de voorzijde van het clubhuis hoef je niet bang te zijn dat er geen plek is om je warming up te doen. De ballen zijn gratis en op de driving range wordt gebruikt gemaakt van een TrackMan range. De condities van de fairways waren optimaal. Het klinkt overdreven, maar ik denk dat er greens in Nederland zijn die er slechter bijliggen dan de de fairways hier. De greens zelf waren overigens zelf ook in goede conditie met ik schat een stimp tussen de 10 en 11. De baan is nog erg jong en dat is terug te zien in de bomen die nog moeten groeien. Hoewel de lay out van de holes goed en mooi is, is het uitzicht met wegen en supermarkten op de achtergrond (deel van de baan) minder mooi om naar te kijken. Ik heb de baan op het einde van de dag gespeeld waardoor er geen tijd overbleef om nog naar de shortgame area te kijken. Deze bevindt zich aan de achterkant van de driving range (met ook afslagplaatsen). Mocht je tijd hebben, dan lijkt dit geen overbodige luxe.

Österakers GC lies half an hour's drive from the centre of the capital. Henrik Stenson, a Swedish golf icon, has contributed to the design. To start with, we are a little confused by the tee markings. They are numbered from 1 to 5 and then HS (Henrik Stenson's initials). We use the scorecard to determine the total length we want to play and then assign a tee number to it. A local member is coming with us and advises 4. A little complicated.

The course has a modern sporting character. Water can punish on 10 holes, fairly split between the two nines. The best part is the finish. The uphill 16, but especially the 17. It's worth going there for the elevated HS tees. After the drive across the lake, there's a forest interspersed with rocks on either side of the fairways. The last hole is equally great, played downhill along the lake, where the edges of the green are separated from the water by a typical hollow. Within two years another 18 will open here, again with the HS signature.

1500SEK no cart. One of the best in Sweden. Practice options, driving range, chipping and putting green top notch. Lake villa, perfect relax feeling after or in the middle stop.
