Bro Hof Slott Golf Club

What an experience! From the drive trough the gate and the upcoming view from the castle clubhouse till the very kind staff from the club! The facilities and the maintenance of the course, especially the greens and fairways are unbeliebable good! You need a good ball striking and cleverness for the tricky greens. Yeah, the Greenfee is not that cheap, but compared to other high class courses, f.e. in spain it is cheap for that what you get.

On a beautiful sunny summer evening near Stockholm, I played the Stadium Course at Bro Hof Slott Golf Club. As you drive up to the estate and the gates open, you see the beautifully renovated Bro Hof Castle. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 2007. You can immediately see that no expense or effort has been spared to create a fantastic course. And they succeeded! Bro Hof Slott Golf Club is, with good reason, the best golf club in Sweden according to reviewers at Leading Courses. The owner is ambitious and once attempted to win the Ryder Cup bid, which was ultimately awarded to Le Golf National in Paris during that cycle. The course is situated on Lake Mälaren, so it features many water hazards, has elevation changes, and is spaciously laid out. This provides beautiful views and a challenging layout. Except in the water, you're unlikely to lose your ball because the course is spacious, and you'll almost always find your ball in the rough—quite a bonus. From the black tees (we played yellow), the Stadium Course, at 7,294 meters (8,000 yards), is the longest 18-hole course in Europe. The course is maintained to a high standard, partly because the club's CEO is the former head greenkeeper and not someone from, say, the hospitality industry. The greens are truly fantastic; fast, roll beautifully, and undulate. This makes putting interesting but also very challenging. Moreover, many greens are relatively small by modern standards. This means you really need to be precise with your shots to the green and your short work around the green. If you miss the greens in the wrong places, it's very difficult to make an up-and-down shot. The finish is truly spectacular. The 15th is a beautiful par 5 that curves along Lake Mälaren. The green is slightly elevated, and if you miss the green, the lake is right there. And the 17th hole is a short par 3 to an island green (like the 17th at Sawgrass). The Stadium Course at Bro Hof Slot is one of the best courses in Europe and one of the most spectacular I've ever played. A true Ryder Cup course, capable of hosting large crowds. I urge the owner to try again to win the Ryder Cup in 2033!

Prachtige aankomst. Dat zie je zelden. Mooi hek met lange oprijlaan en verderop indrukwekkend slot. Prachtig gelegen met uitzicht over het meer. Nette ontvangst in proshop waar je boekje en mooi zakje met pitchfork en tees etc krijgt (mag ook wel voor de greenfee, maar toch …we betaalden voor 2 volwassenen met buggy 460 euro voor de stadiumcourse). Mooie drivingrange met op elke plek een trackmansysteem gratis tees en titleist ballen. Wat een minpunt kan zijn is dat je wordt ingedeeld met anderen (wij hadden leuke flight met Duits echtpaar, maar voor de hoge greenfeeprijs is dat maar afwachten en speel je wellicht liever alleen met je partner). Baan is heel erg goed, prachtig onderhouden, gevarieerd en heeft enkele prachtige holes. Grens waren supersnel. (voor ons al Nederlanders heel erg wennen). Al met al een aanrader al je de hoge greenfee een keer kunt missen.

Isn't it about time the Ryder Cup came to Sweden—and where else but Bro Hof Slott? This is a venue that was made for big-time golf. It's just 35 minutes from central Stockholm and has excellent transport links and plenty of accommodation. But, much more importantly, the Stadium course was designed for drama and is set over such a vast area of land that huge crowds would not be a problem. And I can't think of a better place than its magnificent castle for the celebrations of another European victory! The entrance to Bro Hof Slott gives an immediate impression of grandeur. After weaving past 19th-century outbuildings, the drive leads to imposing gates framed by two columns. They open to reveal the Baroque-style castle, which today serves as the clubhouse and restaurant. We had lunch on its wonderful balcony before heading to the impressive driving range and putting green. Bro Hof Slott also has an 18-hole putting course, spanning 12,000 square metres, where championships are held. The Stadium has a reputation as a 'beast of a course' because almost everything is exaggerated. Its fairways are often very wide, its greens are enormous, its bunkers are massive, and the waters of Lake Mälaren stretch as far as the eye can see. Its final four holes at Bro Hof Slott are made for top professional competition, and I can attest that games can be lost here. The 15th is a mesmerising par-five which demands a drive over water to a narrow fairway with sand on the other side. The course then turns left to a perched peninsula green that might be reachable in two for professionals or three for us mere mortals. Water threatens again on the par-three 16th, cutting in from the right of a sloping green. The 17th is a short but spellbinding island hole with a fiendish green that runs from front to back. The spectator stand for that hole would also take in the short par-four 18th, a tremendous climax with water all along the right-hand side. I could imagine the glory of completing it in style, just as I hope the Europeans do there one day against the USA. The Stadium course is complemented by The Castle, which features six par-fives, six par-fours, and six par-threes. It benefits from excellent bunkering and tighter holes. Once again, it has an excellent finale with the 17th and 18th two of its most memorable holes. The 17th is a par-three that runs along a lake to a swirling green on the water's edge. Our final hole was a fantastic par-four that comes back the other way with the clubhouse in the background. It demands a shot over the lake before it turns towards the green. The Castle course was not more fun than the Stadium course, but it was certainly well worth playing.

Een geweldige dag met 2 lichte tegenvallers. De oprijlaan maakte meteen indruk met links en rechts holes van de Castle Course en uitzicht op de Stadium Course met op de achtergrond een fantastisch meer. De blauwe lucht helpt dan ook om het plaatje compleet te maken. Eenmaal bij de poort die automatisch opent zie je een paar honderd meter verderop een prachtig kasteel (Bro Hof Slott) liggen dat naar mate je dichterbij komt alleen maar mooier wordt. Het aanmelden verliep soepel en een kleine goodie bag met tees, een marker, een pitchfork en een baanboekje is altijd leuk om te ontvangen. Voor een baan waarbij je een greenfee betaald van ongeveer €300,- viel het mij tegen dat de gras tee en het virtual golf gedeelte op de driving range uitsluitend voor leden is. Wat ik wel weer positief vind is dat er ontzettend veel targets op de range zijn en kunstgras greens en vlaggen. Last but not least, inslaan met Pro v1's was een erg leuke ervaring. Castle Course De fairways op deze baan zijn in topconditie. Vol in het gras en heerlijk om er overheen te lopen. Je zou er bijna je schoenen voor uitdoen ;). De greens met stip 12,5 waren erg snel. Door de snelle greens stonden een aantal pin posities in mijn ogen niet geheel op de juiste plaats. En nee, dit komt niet omdat ik slecht heb geput, maar een putt van 2 meter in mijn ogen nooit 3 meter voorbij de hole mag rollen omdat die op geen enkele manier stil te krijgen is. Een andere pin positie of toch net iets langzamere greens is eerlijker. De Castle Course is een baan waar je moet nadenken over wat en hoe je hem speelt. In mijn ogen kenmerkt dit een goede baan. Een 'Quarter House' en een 'Half-way house' zorgen ervoor dat je niks tekort hoeft te komen. Stadium Course Als je 4 uur lang rondloopt op de Castle Course rondloopt en dan nog de hoger genoteerde Stadium Course mag beginnen dan belooft dat veel goeds. Ook deze baan lag er weer fantastisch bij. Het was mijn 2e dag in Zweden en met de greens werd ik erg verwend. Onze start was om 14.00 uur en dit was merkbaar op de green. Hoewel de snelheid zelfs nog iets hoger was dan in de ochtend was deze wets iets hobbeliger dan de Castle Course (nogmaals ik werd verwend). Als met al hielden de putts gewoon lijn en lag iedere gemiste putt toch echt aan mijzelf. Het neusje van de zalm waren de laatste 4 holes. Het zijn 4 perfecte slotholes waar echt nog van alles kan gebeuren. Een prachtige PAR 5 waar de green praktisch in het water eindigt, 2 lastig aan te spelen PAR 3's waarvan er één een eilandgreen heeft en dan nog een PAR waar je eindigt richting het immens grote Bro Hof Slott met, hoe kan het ook anders aan de rechter kan water. Twee smetjes op de dag Wegens een blessure heb ik de laatste 9 holes met een buggy gespeeld. €70,- voor een buggy voor 9 holes leek mij een beetje aan de hoge prijs. Na afloop was alles gesloten waardoor we de dag helaas niet konden afsluiten met een drankje. Als je service hoog in het vaandel hebt staan, dan vind ik deze twee dingen lastig met elkaar te rijmen.
