Rental clubs were not more than a few rounds old (TaylorMade Qi and Qi35’s). Only improvements I could find were adding distance markers to the driving range and expanding the golf shop assortment.

Comporta Dunas is one of those rare courses that immediately feels special from the moment you arrive. The vast sandy landscape, natural dunes and minimalist presentation create a setting that is both dramatic and peaceful. And that’s just the practice range! Every hole has its own character, with excellent strategy throughout and enough width to encourage bold golf. It has a real Melbourne Sandbelt feel, with its expansive sandy landscape, bold bunkering & strategic design, although it played far softer than the rock hard fairways usually found Down Under. The variety of holes, outstanding conditioning & quality of the routing are all exceptional. Someone asked me where I’d place it alongside the top UK courses. It’s such a different style of golf to anything we have here that I’d want a second round before committing, but my gut instinct is somewhere around the Top 25 in GB&I. That’s high praise indeed given the company it’d be keeping. Either way, it’s an outstanding golf course and one I can’t wait to return to.

Beste van Europa. Je wordt hier behandelt als een koning. De golfbaan heeft een uniek design. Elke keer als je op de volgende tee box staat is het een geweldige unieke hole. Het onderhoud is het beste in de wereld. De plannen voor een groter clubhuis, hotels en villa's lopen. Dit zal in de toekomst een geweldig golf resort worden. De oefenfaciliteiten liggen dicht bij elkaar en bij het clubhuis, maar zijn ruim, even geweldig onderhouden en prachtig mooi.

Pro: -Waauw waauw waauw! Absolute perfection! Probably the best course I have played so far! -Incredible hospitality of the highest level. When you arrive at the parking lot, someone is waiting for you to welcome you and to give you your buggy. They make you feel very welcome. Like you’re the king. All staff is friendly and smiling. -Excellent buggies with gps & speakers that you can connect to your phone so you can play some music while you’re cruising around the course. There’s even an ice bucket to keep your drinks and snacks cool on a hot day. -Complementary water bottle & bag tag with club logo and your own name engraved. -Very nice practice facilities. -Beautiful downhill driving range with plenty of targets and quality golf balls stacked in pyramids. -Chipping greens with bunkers. -Large putting green. -Total peace. No noise. No buildings. Just nature. -It’s hard to find the right words to describe this golf course. It feels very natural. Like the holes are supposed to be there. They perfectly fit into the beautiful dunes. It doesn’t feel like the designer has put some hazards on the holes. The hazards feel like they are naturally part of the course. The name ‘dunes’ gives it away, there is a lot of sand. Playing this course is like a journey. There is also so much space around the holes. You often feel like you’re the only one out there. -Every hole is amazing. I promise. Every time you think you have just played the most amazing hole ever, another one follows. -Hole 5 is a gem. A drivable risk-reward hole. I love it! -Hole 6 is an amazing par 3 in some kind of a natural half-pipe. -Holes 7, 8, 9 all amazing holes. It just doesn’t stop. -Even though the course looks very overwhelming it is very playable because of the wide fairways, large greens and the 6 tee boxes. If you choose the right tee box for your level, you will have a very enjoyable round. -The maintenance is absolutely perfect. Wonderfully consistent greens. Fairways are like a brand new thick carpet. Large & perfectly flat tee boxes. Great sand in bunkers. -There is hardly any rough, it’s all sand with bushes and trees. I don’t think I lost any balls which is quite unique for my game. -Food cart on the course. -Very beautiful toilets on the course. I mean it. They are beautiful. -Water refill stations around the course (to refill the amazing water bottle we received). -The temporary clubhouse (they will build the real clubhouse soon) is wonderful. It is rather small & cosy and the interior design makes you feels right at home. -Cosy terrace with great lounge chairs. Wonderful to chill after a round of golf. -I loved the club sandwich from the restaurant. -Great pro shop with everything a golfer needs and loads of logo-items. -Charger for electrical cars on the parking lot. Con: -I don’t think they have showers at the temporary clubhouse. -Cart paths on the course are in a bad condition.
