Bowood Hotel Spa and Golf Resort

I visited Bowood Golf Club in January 2022, and it was raining hard, and it had been raining for a few days beforehand. So, I drove there with a little apprehension!

Unfortunately, the course had temporarily closed 9 holes. The pro in the shop was excellent and ran us through the new routing of 9 holes, saying we were welcome to play twice, which we did. We didn't see any other golfers out there, so we pretty much had it to ourselves!

I could tell the course was amazing even from the limited 9 holes we played. Conditions were, of course, damp, but the greens held up pretty well and are probably usually very fast, though the pace was more my level. It was pretty open for a driver, with some rough to guard against, along with excellent placement of bunkers, some water (that was intended to be there), and trees (that have probably been there longer than the course).

My friend stayed at the spa, which he reports was excellent. The clubhouse is great, and I enjoyed the post-game drink. The green fees were credited back to my friend due to the conditions, so we had two free rounds of 9 holes, which was a bonus.

Definitely worth a visit, but try to avoid the conditions we endured!

Mooie afwisselende baan die mooi in het landschap past

. Glooiend maar goed te lopen. Brede fairways maar ook echte rough. Greens zouden voor een Championship baan sneller mogen.

Very nice course... just lovely!

The course considering it has been in use still has the feel of being new. In the winter the grass is particularly short, but in the spring and summer when we last played it regularly, it was much better. I would have expected by now the fairways to have matured a little more.

Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable course to play. Pro shop and staff very friendly and knowledgeable.

Clubhouse is not really one in a conventional sense because it is set back from the actual main golf course and instead looks backwards towards the 9 hole short course, but nevertheless is a very pleasant place to relax post round.
