It’s not Aldenham’s fault that it’s just off the M25 but a three hour drive through several traffic jams did not endear me to the club on arrival. Fortunately the day got much better from then on. Being the only course on the island I guess it’s also the best. However, do not expect lush greens, well maintained fairways or the bar to be open after about 6pm! A hack around while you’re on your holiday would be absolutely fine and, to be fair, I imagine it’s difficult maintaining a course in blistering summer conditions in this part of the world..
