Royal Golf Club du Château d'Ardenne
Acerca de Royal Golf Club du Château d'Ardenne
The Royal Golf Club of the Château Royal d'Ardenne is situated on land belonging to the Donation Royal. The Leopold Tower, built in 1878, today is the clubhouse of the golf course and offers some of the most beautiful views of the countryside around the Lesse valley, a few kilometres from Dinant, Houyet and Ciergnon, the castle of Ciergnon, where the Royal Family regularly comes to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of southern Belgium. The golf course, which was inaugurated in 1895 in the park of the Ardenne castle, built by King Leopold II between 1874 and 1891, was restored after the Second World War in 1950 by Baron Gaston Braun and some of his friends. First with 9 holes, then 12 holes, and finally the current 18-hole course which was completed in 1992. The result of this long and rich history of this prestigious park is certainly one of the most beautiful golf courses in Belgium. Centuries-old trees, some of them representing very rare varieties, line the fairways that run through the naturally undulating landscape that offers superb views of the surrounding countryside. Golfers will also be able to contemplate the vestiges of the past, with of course the Leopold Tower, but also the chapel, the open-air theatre built in 1889, a chandelier and a cast-iron porphyry fountain.

A true hidden gem. Chateau d’Ardenne is a very enjoyable course with magnificent views, lots of entourage and a very friendly reception. And you may wel stand a chance to play millionaire’s golf, since very often there are few people in the course. The best of the views of the countryside are from the clubhouse and surroundings, and the first holes. The major part of the course enjoys it’s own spectacular scenery which is the ‘park’ with its majestic old trees, a pond and couple of follies like a fountain and a theatre. The course is quite varied, not too long and not too difficult, which adds to the pleasure of playing here. The fairways and bunkers are average, but the greens are in perfect shape. Although the practice facilities do not match the stature of the course, it is more than compensated for by the overall charm. This is not a course to test your game, but to enjoy it.
