Hilversumsche Golf Club

Mijn favoriete baan in Nederland is de Pan, maar nu ik hier vandaag heb gespeeld heb ik ineens twee favoriete banen. Alles klopt hier: de ontvangst, de oefenfaciliteiten, het clubhuis en bovenal deze schitterende golfbaan van de oude meester golfbaanarchitect Henry Colt. Zowel de Pan als deze baan stralen een vriendelijkheid uit waar ik een grote fan van ben. Dat maakt de baan niet makkelijker, maar ik voel mij thuis op zo'n baan en dat bevordert mijn speelplezier en meestal ook het resultaat. Ondanks de warme en droge afgelopen maanden heeft de baan mooi groene afslagplaatsen, fairways en greens. Compliment aan de greenkeepers. De fairways zijn regelmatig flink ondulerend en dat geeft een leuke onnederlandse beleving. De baan als geheel is een klassieke bos- en heidebaan met veel naaldbomen. Dat is gunstig als je onder de bomen terechtkomt en het is zoeken wanneer je in de heide ligt. Er zijn geen waterhindernissen in de baan, maar voldoende bunkers. Het mooiste voorbeeld daarvan is een niet zo lange par 3 op de tweede negen: de green wordt bewaakt door vijf frontale diepe bunkers. Vanaf de afslag lijken veel holes smaller dan ze in werkelijkheid zijn. Je slaat als het ware door een poort van bomen heen, maar daarna komt er een voldoende ruim landingsgebied. Uitdagend en leuk. De greens zijn meestal vrij groot, rollen fantastisch, hebben verraderlijke breaks en je rolt zomaar van een green af en dan wordt je chipvaardigheid getest. Ook dit is weer uitdagend en heel leuk. De layout van de baan is mooi gevarieerd, met vooral op de tweede negen een aantal lastige en langere holes, waar je baanmanagement flink wordt beproefd. Gelukkig had ik een goede gids bij mij. Na afloop is het goed toeven op het terras, met mooi zicht op deze golfparel. Er is dan nog maar één vraag: wanneer mag ik weer?

Topklasse. Fairways zeer goed ondanks droogte. Bunkers prachtig en de greens echt fantastisch, supersnel.

Well well well… what a beauty. The caddiemaster made the visitors (the three of us) feel welcome and made our day. Truly, a good beginning is half the work. Today, the golden beginning with a master caddiemaster was even more than half. The course. Green lush, eagles soaring and 18 holes crafted in the woods made for an unforgettable experience. I would almost dare say this is the best golfing experience ever in the lowlands.

For me, this is the quintessential Dutch course, a wooded heathland layout set on the sandy heath soil you really only find in the Netherlands and, to a lesser degree, just across the border in northern Belgium. There’s genuinely nothing like it anywhere else in the world, and on a clear day like the one we had, it’s stunning. The conditioning was immaculate, maintenance on point from tee to green, and the views throughout are a real pleasure. As a Colt design over a century old, it carries the pedigree you’d hope for, and it was fascinating to learn the club is actively researching Colt’s original intent and working to restore it. That kind of stewardship is rare and worth applauding. The clubhouse is authentic and full of character, the service was excellent, and the facilities inside are first-rate. The practice area behind the course is perfectly fine, functional rather than fancy, but that’s a minor note against everything else. Everyone we met was warm and welcoming. Overall, a memorable day. Highly recommended.

I’ve been here several times, and every visit continues to blow me away. The conditions, the views, the silence — everything about this place is simply a 10. The course is beautifully designed and maintained to perfection. The greens roll true, the fairways are immaculate, and every hole feels thoughtfully crafted. Beyond the course itself, the entire experience stands out: the terrace is perfect, the atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, and the people make you feel genuinely welcome. We teed off on a Sunday at 07:45 AM, and it was pure magic. The early morning light, the calmness of the course, and the pristine conditions made it an unforgettable round. A place that never disappoints — and keeps you coming back for more.
