GC Schloss Weitenburg

Played the course and visited the club this weekend. Unfortunately the club is financially in trouble, sufferend from roof of the clubhouse burning recently. Unfortunately the entire experience is influenced by financial impact to all elements - however every member and worker of the club was extremly welcoming, pragmatic and truely kind. I hope the course will survive the heat during the coming weeks, it has seriously suffered from the heat already: Greens get brown spots, parts of the fairways are pretty bouncy - and tees boxes require maintainance. However: The course layout as such is interesting and unique: First holes play up the hill to great view over the valley, from there it goes down again play through the valley of the river Neckar. Routing takes you serval times along and across the Neckar, with course rules for a number of situations - allowing good pace of play and fun. Stand out to me is difference between first few holes and back9, with different character and challenges: From my point of view you won‘t get happy with this course first time, but it is a great members course: Never boring, good chances to score - if you are not pushing too hard. Stand out to me are no.6 Playing par 5 down hill dog-leg allowing Birdie or even better, after good drive - but still challenging with small green. On back9, no.15 allows interesting choice of attacking green directly for 301m par4 - or laying up before river Neckar for a longer second shot. Overall I really hope that the club can recover, it has got great potential from club-house and training areas through walk through the little village along the main place with fountain in magnificent landscape.

Good routing isn’t this course’s strong suit. It takes a walk to get from the club house to hole 1. Holes 2 through 6 are set on their own hilly patch of land. But if you think it’s smooth sailing from hole 7 onward—think again. The course throws some serious challenges your way. You’ll be playing along, and sometimes across, the Neckar River. Not exactly easy peasy. Playing in a valley with views to the forests and a castle makes for a very picturesque round of golf. Just don’t underestimate it, it’s a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Toller Parklandschaft Kurs ….. haben ihn zum zweiten Mal im Urlaub gespielt und immer noch sehr gut.

We hadden moeite om het clubhuis te vinden. Ligt wel 500 meter van start hole 1 af. Buggy is aan te bevelen, met name voor de eerste lus. Weliswaar een Par72 baan, maar Par34 op hole 1 t/m 9 en Par38 op de tweede 9. Onderhoud matig. Greens niet echt snel. Over de baan kronkelt een watergang, die nadrukkelijk in het spel voorkomt. Aantal smalle afslagen met nauwe doorgang. Gastvrij ontvangen maar neem contant geld mee. Onder de 20 euro kun je niet pinnen. Algehele indruk: lage waardering op Leading Courses is terecht maar minder negatief dan we we ervaren hebben.

Meer dan een matige beoordeling verdient deze golfbaan niet. De omgeving is mooi en de holes hadden veel natuurlijker aangelegd kunnen worden. De baan heeft meerdere hindernissen die te veel 'gekunsteld' zijn en dat komt niet ten goede aan de baan en het spel. Eerste 6 holes liggen tegen de heuvels op (buggy is aan te bevelen wanneer je geen elektrische trolley hebt), daarna redelijk vlak met een flink aantal lange holes. Hole 12, een Par3 van bijna 200 meter vanaf geel, moet over een waterpartij waarvoor een carry van 150 meter nodig is, of linksom de vijver waar allemaal bomen staan. Greens matig, bunkers goed.
