Llandrindod Wells Golf Club
About Llandrindod Wells Golf Club
In 1905 a group of local businessmen had the foresight to establish an 18-hole golf course on land overlooking the Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells to service the needs of the thousands of visitors that flocked to the town to "take the waters". The course at Llandrindod Wells is of the highest possible pedigree. It was designed by six times Open Champion Harry Vardon, and altered some years later by five times champion James Braid, to produce, essentially, the superb course of 18 holes, almost 5800 yards in length (par 69), that you see today. The club was inaugurated in 1907 with a match between the fabled Great Triumvirate of the sport, Vardon, Braid and JH Taylor.

Llandrindod Wells is a 1905 Harry Vardon moorland layout set high above the town, offering expansive views in every direction. The course climbs steeply from the first tee but settles into a routing that uses the natural contours of the hillside extremely well. It is entirely bunkerless, relying instead on slopes, run-offs and natural shaping to create challenge. Course condition was excellent, with firm and fast but receptive greens, and lush fairways despite recent heat. The standout hole was the par 4 16th, played from a raised tee into a narrowing fairway and on to a green positioned against the hillside. Facilities include a small grass driving range, a putting green, and a well-stocked pro shop. Staff were very welcoming, even opening the shop outside standard hours to assist. Llandrindod Wells is a distinctive and enjoyable moorland experience with memorable views and a friendly atmosphere. It is well worth including on a Mid-Wales golf itinerary.

This is a really nice golf course - especially looking at the price - but it is not a top course. It's good and a decent play. People are really friendly. The course offers some nice views across the countryside. If in the area, definitely play this course. A hidden gem.

First to mention is that the staff is super friendly, really love that. Then the course of Llandrindod Wells Golf Club. This is a hilly course or hilltop course, so expect a lot of really nice views. Also, if you are a bit older then a buggy might be a good idea. There are some really nice Par 3's and the course has a high level of maintenance. The course was designed by Harry Carson. There are no bunkers and water hazards so you won't have to think about those ;-).
The food and service afterwards are really great, so make sure to stay and eat here after your round. If you need clubs, they will lend them out free of charge (at least in my case).
