Castletown Golf Links

Prachtige mooie links course, de mooiste van Isle of Man. De baan is heel goed te doen. De rough is vooral veel helmgras, waar de bal goed te vinden en te spelen is. De laatste 3 holes zijn zeer spectaculair, mooi aan de zee , over rotsen en kliffen slaan

The Isle of Man is famous for the Tourist Trophy motorcycle races. The flight from Liverpool to this tranquil island takes just 25 minutes. Within sight of the airport is clearly the best of the island's seven courses, Castletown Golf Links. "Rotate tees, enjoy the views, and take one more club to the green on the last hole, " gives my manager Andi some pre-game advice. The course is on a peninsula. The opening four holes form a triangle that takes you back near the clubhouse to a hole called Road Hole. It stretches along the access road. The last three holes are the top. Par 3 with the 16th green near the rocky coastline. Drive 17 over the ravine. It's a short but blind shot to the green on the last after a good drive. Ahead is a large bunker and a deep ravine. I realized too late that I should have taken one more club.

The trip to the Isle of Man is definitely worth it. If you can get an early morning flight from Liverpool (prices tend to be well under £40), have an eighteen, lunch on the terrace, and fly back around 6 pm. The Man is candy and the course is awesome. A short walk from the course, at the southern tip of the peninsula, is a lighthouse owned by Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson.

A lovely drive along the bay is a bit disappointed by the run down hotel opposite (hopefully re-development will follow, planning permitting). After a friendly welcome at the pro shop we stated our round. Considering the recent bad weather the course was in very good condition & greens excellent (I putted well that day so it must have been the greens). Some holes are exceptional - the 5th Road Hole & 17th across the ravine with waves lapping below waiting to gobble up stray shots standing out. A good round was complemented by a super Sunday Lunch (don't miss the cauliflower cheese). All round a terrific day & Castletown is well recommended.

Stunning scenery and set on a peninsula. Reminds me of Turnberry. It is a must be option on an Isle of Man Golf Tour.
