Castle Royle Golf & Country Club

Castle Royal is a parkland course in Reading designed by Neil Coles (1994). The layout is relatively flat but relies on extensive bunkering and occasional water hazards to create strategy from the tee. Several fairway bunkers are not visible from the tee, which adds to the decision-making. Course condition was very good, with well-presented fairways and greens running at a consistent pace. The 18th is a notable finishing hole, featuring a long bunker down the right and a green protected by bunkers front and back. Facilities include a private members' clubhouse with spa and fitness centre, a grass driving range, chipping and putting greens, and a halfway hut serving hot drinks and snacks. The pro shop is compact and focused on essentials. Overall, Castle Royal offers a well-kept, enjoyable challenge that rewards smart positioning. It may not be architecturally distinctive, but it’s a good value and a solid choice in the area.

Practice facilities are extensive - very good driving range with free balls, multiple putting greens and a dedicated short game area

Parking is plentiful and the golf course is an absolute delight.
