Unlike Dunas and Torre, I had not read much about Pinheirinho before the trip & it was probably the biggest surprise of the 3 courses we played. It has a completely different character, with 2 distinct nines that create a strong contrast in rhythm and challenge. One loop feels a little more generous from the tee, while the other is tighter, more exacting & brings water into play far more often. Together, they make for a round that never settles into one pattern for long. I absolutely loved Pinheirinho and came off the 18th thinking it belonged alongside some of my favourite Portuguese courses, such as San Lorenzo and Quinta do Lago. At that point I had not yet played Dunas. It is proper golf: demanding, strategic throughout and the sort of course that keeps you thinking from the 1st tee to the last green. I could happily play Pinheirinho every week. Higher handicap golfers should think carefully about their choice of tees, as it is a course best enjoyed from a length that suits your game. There is certainly far more trouble, and many opportunities to lose golf balls! Far more than at the other 2 Comporta courses. Although it is the longest established course in the area, it has spent much of its life under the radar. Significant investment is now being made to bring the conditioning up to the standard the course deserves, while completing the new clubhouse, hotel & wider resort project. I wish I had the budget as I’m pretty sure this is somewhere I’d love to have a holiday home. I was also told the spectacular beach and dunes, which can be reached on foot through the course, are not to be missed. Another reason to return. One of our hosts said the landscape reminded her of Petra. Pinheirinho may not yet have received the same headlines as Dunas, but do not overlook it if you have the opportunity to tee it up. It is a fantastic golf course and one I would return to in a heartbeat. I’ve not added ratings for clubhouse, facilities, etc as they are not there yet & feel it would be unfair for Pinheirinho’s average rating to be hit by this.

Pinheirinho Comporta has a rather unusual story. The course was completed more than five years ago (2021) as part of a large real estate development, but permitting issues delayed the opening. During that time the course has been carefully maintained by the greenkeeping team even though very few people have played it. We played there in 2021 with a Leading Courses Ambassador trip and the course has matured well. Not aften that a course gets 5 years rest after completion... It now appears that the course will finally open to the public around August 2026. The layout is enjoyable and easy to navigate, with attractive views and several risk-and-reward holes that reward accurate driving and solid approach play. Facilities are still under development. A clubhouse is currently being built (they tore down the first clubhouse! and were finishing the new one during our visit in March 2026) so there are no real amenities on site yet. Bringing your own water and food is advisable. Nevertheless, the course provides a relaxed and pleasant round and was a very nice way to finish our golf week in the Lisbon area.

Can you believe this course isn’t open to the public yet? It’s a real shame that it’s closed at the moment because it is a stunning course and in really good condition all things considered. I was the only person on the complex at the time, a really weird feeling having the whole course to yourself bar a couple of stray dogs. Despite the blistering heat it was so serene and peaceful to play here.
It is a different proposition to Terras da Comporta where I had played just before. Instead of the drastic changes of elevation the fairways had more of a linksy feel to them with loads of undulations. Instead of wasteland there was more bush and water. The greens had been hollow tined recently but still really playable and the fairways very well kept.
The fairways are wide enough to offer relief for looser drives but miss by much and you’ll have to contend with trees and some bush.
The practice facilities look like they’ll be very good with a wide driving range and putting and chipping greens.
Hopefully the course opens in 2024 and I get the chance to come back and visit!

General impression
Courses at Pinheirinho Comporta
Herdade do Pinheirinho
This course, designed by Santana da Silva has had a difficult start. The course has expansive and undulating greens. The 11th is probably the signature hole, but it also has a nice and short par-four tenth, with two fairways and a narrow green. The island-green seventeenth is also a hole to remember, just like the eighteenth hole, which requires an approach over water.
