Cruit Island Golf Club

Voor de golfer die net iets mee moeite wil doen. Deze baan ligt aan het einde van de wereld in het noorden van Ierland. En is misschien een pelgrims tocht maar eigenlijk een must. Een ongekende 9 holes - 4 holes hebben een andere tee box - ervaring. Op de kliffen met glooiingen en fraaie views over de oceaan. De 1e negen is een verkenning om de 2e negen toe te slaan. Toch? Gespeeld met een stevige windkracht waardoor de ballen alle kanten uitvlogen. Met name de hoge rough in. Kansloos om daarin te zoeken. Bal droppen en verder gaan. Gewoon genieten van het uitzicht. Geen driving range hier. Besteed het opwarmen met name aan het putten. Bij aankomst bij het clubhuis de toeter gebruiken om te laten weten aan de golfers dat je eraan komt. Gewenst en wel zo veilig.

Surrounded by the sea this is one of the most scenic courses in Ireland. It is a little gem. But don't be fooled by it's beauty! Every hole offers the golfer a different challenge and length off the tee is not always necessary. In fact, course management is crucial if you want to return a decent score here. You need a selection of shots to master the intricacies Cruit offers. As it's a nine hole course it offers the opportunity to better one's score on the second time around. Even if your golf is not great you will savour the beauty of the surrounding area on every hole. From check in to refreshments afterwards Cruit Island is well worth a visit by anyone in the area.

Der Golfplatz ist nicht mit anderen in der Umgebung zu vergleichen. Pflegezustand und Greens durchschnitlich. Viele blinde Abschläge und nicht alltägliche Bahnen. Schon die Anfahrt ist spannend. Der Platz garantiert aber einen aufregenden , einmaligen Golftag mit faszinierenden Meeresblicken,Abschläge über Kliffs etc. Eine lohnende Abwechslung zu den vielen schönen Golfplätzen in der Umgebung

Cruit Island Golf Club offers above all incredible surroundings. It's played on cliffs with sea views. Don't look for top quality. The tee shots are off the mats, but it doesn't matter. Blind holes are no surprise either. It's played on small greens. Cars drive through the course to a small swearing station. It was still closed at the beginning of April, as was the whole course. But there was play... The signs advise drivers to use their horns to alert golfers to the passing cars.

First Impressions - it's on the edge of the known world! It's a long drive on narrow roads out to this island on the Wild Atlantic Coast.

The clubhouse is small and quite old-fashioned - it hunkers down to protect itself from the weather!

The course is, as they say, 'small but perfectly formed' - 9 holes, which you can play twice from slightly different tees (a matter of a few yards difference) to make 18 holes. 6 of the 9 holes are blind drives. The course condition was okay - greens and tee-boxes, fine, some fairways less so. However, the views and the challenge of some of the holes are well worth the visit!

I think we were fortunate to have winds and only a little rain - it must be wild here at times!
