Brijuni Golf Course
About Brijuni Golf Course
On Brijuni golf is played on a unique golf course dating from 1922, which then acquired the flattering title of one of the largest and naturally most beautiful golf courses of that time. But, what most attracts golfers to Brijuni is the unique setting and atmosphere of this golf course. On the reconstructed 18 holes of the onetime largest golf course in Europe, you can still experience the enchantment of playing amid untouched nature. This rightfully dubbed environmental friendly golf course is truly impressive. The golf course is maintained without any machinery, no pesticides are used, it is not even watered so that greenery of the golf course depends on weather conditions.

We played here in July, high season you would assume, but the “clubhouse” was closed. No coffee or cold drinks available unfortunately. Course is as described, something special, but in all honesty a bit disappointing. You can hit middle of the fairway and still find yourself in the bushes due to a freaky bounce on the rockhard fairways. Greens are also rockhard and putting is more hit and hope. Nevertheless we had a good time here.

And what an experience. First of all: you have to go there by boat from Fazana. So you buy boat tickets with green-fee. Weather was fine and we walked with our carry/standbags from the pier to the clubhouse (about 1 km). There was no official, but we had a green-fee and we took two hand carts to put our bags on.
The landscape is beautiful; the fairways were dry and the greens are something special. They are made of hardened clay with a little layer of coarse sand on top. Do not go there for a golf on an excellent manicured course, but the experience is really worthwhile, especially if you realize that the island was the summer residence of Mr. Tito, the president of Yugoslavia in communist times. At the time an old Chevrolet belonging to Mr. Tito was on display. Very nice. You play in a really nice environment of woods, but also near the seaside, with magnificent views.
After 18 holes we came back to clubhouse and were offered a ride to the harbor,
All in all a must play golf course if you are in the surroundings!
