BelgianGolfer review

I played Hulencourt for the first time after the renovation from Infinite Variety that took 2 years and that was completed in June. The welcoming has always been a strength at this club and this time was no different. The service is excellent and friendly. After the round I also had the opportunity to talk to people from the club and talk about the changes that have been done. To the course : this was not just an upgrade here and there, it has been a total makeover. The bunkering has been changed completely and also the areas around the greens have been changed with more run-offs. There is not a lot of water on this course, but at the holes with water (hole 5 and 12) it has become a hazard more in play now. Even though the course has become more challenges, it's still very inviting off the tee with wide fairways. I found all 14, which is a rarity. Overall I feel the club deserves credit to do these major changes and upgrade the course to pass the test of time. I read in recent reviews some complaints about the signalisation. I found it actually quite easy to find the next tee, thanks to these very low moved grass cart paths to the next hole. This was really interesting : the paths were cut just as low as and next to tees as if they are integrated. Very nicely done. It is true that you can get mixed up between hole 8 and 17, so be careful with that. What would help to the overall experience is a layout of the hole on each on the tee or otherwise at least a stroke saver. They were not available yet, but it is expected to be ready soon, due to corona there has been a delay. It's just a question of time. The biggest point of attention to me was the pace of play. It was surprisingly busy on a Friday afternoon. We were behind a 2-ball and they were behind a very slow 4-ball. The 2-ball before has passed the 4-ball at hole 10, so we were behind the slow flight after that for the rest of the round. They were playing a texas scramble and I feel the marshall, who was available, could have intervened. We finished just around sunset. As we were so late, we were not able to eat after the round, so we returned the next day to check the kitchen. We had a good steak and a sweet dessert. Service again came with a smile. Hulencourt is certainly not a cheap course at 105 EUR in the week, but I feel it's correctly priced for what you get. I also find that the club is correctly rated at Leadingcourses, and it deserves a place in the top 10 of Belgium, as one of very few clubs in the list that are not Royal.
