I heard lots of positive things about Eichenheim in the past so I was excited to finally play this course myself. It is designed by world renowned golfcourse architect Kyle Philipps and I also had the pleasure to play one of his other famous courses Kingsbarns in Scotland. I was nicely welcomed at the golf reception. I initially wanted to walk the course but the secretary gave me the hint that I might consider taking a golf cart. His recommodation proved to be a good one as I enjoyed the course much more this way. Kitzbühel is famous for its ski slopes in Winter and Eichenheim's front 9 are quite hilly. But Kyle Phillips really made the most of this piece of ground and designed some spectacular holes! On the 1st hole you need to hit your ball through a shoot into a nice infinity green with a beautiful view of the Wilder Kaiser mountains. The signature hole of the course is the par 5 3rd hole. The tee shot from high above is spectacular and great fun to hit. My favourite hole of the course was the 7th. A short par 4 but really interesting to play in beautiful surroundings. The back 9 are on less hilly terrain but the quality of the holes is still very good. The 14th hole is a nice par 3 with views of Kitzbühel behind your back. The 15th hole is a dogleg right and you need to hit your approach to a well defended downhill green. Overall I really enjoyed the course and can definitely recommend to play it if you are in the area. Plus you can see the famous Hahnenkamm from several spots on the course. So a perfect day could be to play Eichenheim in the morning and then take a ride up to the Hahnenkamm. Or vice versa. ?.
