Ombria Algarve

It’s a stunning course. Visually very attractive, in great condition and great service. The amount of red stakes for non water areas is unusual and forgiving for errant shots.

One of the best courses I have played on. Beautiful setting. Lovely well maintained courses. Great experience. Highly recommended.

Today I played Ombria for the third – or fourth – time, with a strong breeze as my companion. It certainly didn’t make the course any easier, only more challenging. I don’t find Ombria very easy either way, but that’s apparently just me, as I get 19 strokes and the par is 71. Hole 18, a cool dogleg where I was absolutely happy with my beautiful par, turned out to be index 18 😉 I still think the signage could be better and clearer, especially at the start, and the beep in the buggy on steep sections etc. could be about half as loud. But the biggest drawback, of course, remains the lack of a driving range; hopefully that will be added sometime in the future. The staff are friendly, the buggy bar drove round the course, and there’s a clean toilet at hole 10. The clubhouse could do with a bit more atmosphere; to me, it feels a bit like one of those ‘English sports bars’. Having said all that, I still really enjoy playing the course and we’ll definitely be going back.

One of the most peculiar and unique golf courses I’ve ever seen. The surroundings in the most lush vegetation, the level changes, the course design: absolutely stunning. There is not a single “dull” hole: each and every one is an experience. Ok there is no driving range, but the value for money is astounding: I would pay 250/300$ per round in a heartbeat. Highly recommended!

Visueel een spectaculaire baan. Maar golftechnisch, en dat geldt met name voor de 1e 9, te gekunsteld. Een 18-holes golfbaan moet je als je dat wil gewoon kunnen lopen. Hier is een buggy echter verplicht. Dat zegt genoeg: Enorme hoogteverschillen en grote afstanden van de greens naar de volgende tees. Daarnaast valt op het onderhoud ook wel wat aan te merken: snelle, dat wel (ca. stimp 11), onbetrouwbare greens. Nog nooit een baan gespeeld met zoveel diepe kraters van ongerepareerde pitchmarks. Die dus altijd in je lijn liggen. Rafelige holeranden, denk dat de holes mimimaal 2 en misschien wel 3 weken geleden gestoken waren en dus dichtbij de holes erg hobbelig. Terwijl half Zuid-Europa in de fik staat, overal in de baan weggegooide sigarettenpeuken. Zeer ongezellig, smaakloos ingericht clubhuis met kleine ramen, zonder uitzicht op de baan, maar wel 7 (!) flatscreens. Samenvattend: mooie dag gehad, heb me goed vermaakt, maar met echt golf heeft dit niks te maken. Duidelijk een met venture capital en voornamelijk winstoogmerk opgezet resort.
