20260325 Ancient Sands Ook gespeeld op 20260327 (dag14) Trip Egypte Hurghada dag 12 Welkom: Zeer vriendelijk ontvangst Secretariaat was open zo ook de pro shop maar deze keer een petje met logo van de club kunnen kopen Driving range was niet overdekt en men kan vanuit het gras oefenen Chipping green gezien Putting green was even snel als de greens van de holes Dit is een familieterrein omdat de moeilijkheidsgraad laag (op voorwaarde dat je de juiste tee kiest) en vergevingsgezind (niet altijd) is Ook hier is de keuze van tee belangrijk (aanrader kies hier een tee dichter dan thuis) Weersomstandigheden: Flauw zonnetje, geen regen en een weinig wind Tee: Met kleuren, aantal 6 niet genderless en geen opvang gebroken tees Wit 6788m Geel 6263m Blauw 5773m Rood 5014m Afstand tee fairway ver, terrein geschikt voor alle hcp’s als je de juiste tee kiest Exacte omlijning van de tee, foto’s genomen van Geel Terrein: Gedurfde layout, bunkers en waste omgevingen zijn hier veelvuldig te vinden, weinig andere hindernissen beschikbaar maar wel ontzettend breed Te ver slagen is ook niet goed want het risico op balverlies is groot Ballen ga je hier weinig verliezen tenzij je de talrijke hindernissen rechtstreeks aanvalt. Voor de lage handicappers is het een uitdaging om bepaalde hindernissen te overbruggen Bij nonchalant te spelen wordt je zeker gepakt door dit terrein Scheidingslijn tussen fairway en de hoge rough (stel niets voor) is een lijn Bunkers zijn mooi en wachten op hun prooi Green: Ontzettend groot en even snel Buggy: Aanwezig zonder GPS Test je buggy eerst goed op defecten alvorens te vertrekken Restaurant: Enkel drankje genuttigd, prijzen zijn democratisch Een terugkomer waardig? Ja het heeft een zekere wow factor Een aanrader breng GPS zelf mee en water mee Het onderhoud van deze baan scoort hoog en wat opviel veel volk op deze baan De aanduidingen voor bezoekers zijn optimaal en rijden naar de volgende tee kan soms een eindje rijden zijn

We visited club twice when we stayed at Steigenberger El Gouna. It's just a very small drive from that hotel (about 4 km). There is a huge difference in occupancy. While El Gouna is 4 balls all they, there was hardly anyone to play Ancient Sands. I don't know why that is, because I prefered this layout above El Gouna. Inviting driving range that was twice empty when I was there. At the first hole on the first day we were told that hole 2 was closed. That should have been told at reception. Course is typically Egyptian with a lot of sand (bunkers and wasteland). There are 3 holes with water into play (13, 15 and 18). Wide fairways. As most of the clubhouses in Egypt, not all that great.

This golf course is now an 18-hole course. The staff is super friendly and the golf pro Hassan is excellent. The last 9 holes (the front 9) have been open since February, except hole 8, which will probably open in April. On the front 9, the quality of the fairway is poor, with a lot of weeds. The greens also. On the back 9 the fairways start to have a lot of dry, yellow spots. The whole course needs a big maintenance very urgent. The design of the course is ridiculous. Sometimes you have to walk 500m to go from one hole to the next: from the clubhouse to hole 1, from hole 9 to 10 is a 10-minute walk, from hole 14 to 15 and from hole 16 to 17. To play a course of 6263m you have to walk 11km at least. So renting a buggy is almost a must. So for the moment, the course is not worth the money. The quality of the course will be good again in 1 year or so but the ridiculous layout of the course will stay forever. But the excellent service of the staff makes up a great deal.

Ancient Sand was thoroughly impressed. The course is exceptionally well-maintained, with lush fairways and fast greens that are a real pleasure to play on. The bunkers are immaculate, adding to the overall quality of the course. One thing that stood out was the open design, which allows for a great breeze to play a role in your game, making it a unique challenge to factor in the wind. The layout of the course is fantastic, with plenty of opportunities to play around or over obstacles, adding a strategic element to each hole. The first nine holes really feel like you're playing in the desert, with vast open spaces and minimal greenery, giving it a truly desert-like atmosphere. However, the back nine holes offer a completely different experience, with more greenery and a refreshing oasis feel that contrasts beautifully with the front nine. The driving range is well-kept, and I really appreciated the staff member who continuously cleaned the clubs after warm-up, making it even more convenient. The course itself has a luxurious feel, with attention to detail evident throughout, creating a premium experience. While the houses under construction near the first holes might take some getting used to, they didn’t affect my overall experience and don’t factor into the rating. The Academy Course, which you can play towards the end, is also in excellent condition, making for the perfect way to conclude the round. The clubhouse is small but charming, and the touch of receiving a warm or cold towel after your round is a lovely luxury that enhances the overall experience. One personal highlight for me was the Par 6 hole—it’s a real challenge and a memorable feature of the course. Overall, Ancient Sand is a stunning course, with great design, top-notch maintenance, and a luxurious feel. It’s a must-visit for golfers who appreciate good-quality courses.

Ab jetzt können die 18 Bahnen in Angriff genommen werden ( die Bahn 8 ist noch nicht ganz fertig). Der Empfang ist besonders freundlich und stilvoll. Auf der Driving Range wurden mir sogar beim Schlägerwechsel die Schläger gereinigt! Die ersten ( neuen) 9 Bahnen starten mit einem langen Par 4 und einem Par 6(!) gen Norden, aus dem immer der Wind weht. Ich spielte bei Sandsturm und hatte arg zu kämpfen. Die Bahnen sind breit und verlaufen durch Villen und Lagunen. Longhitter werden ihren Spaß haben. Da die neuen Bahnen noch nicht eingewachsen sind, wirkt es aktuell noch sehr kahl. Die Fairways sind recht stumpf und die Grüns sehr schnell. Die Front9 sind tatsächlich nicht sehr spannend; dies ändert sich allerdings auf den Back9, die bereits seit 2016 in Betrieb sind. Besonders die 13, ein Par 3, dass über die Lagune angegriffen werden muss und die 13 mit 2 mal Querwasser bleiben im Gedächtnis. Die 18, wieder gen Norden, wird bei Gegenwind eher kein gelungener Abschluss, selbst wenn das Inselgrün erfolgt erreicht wird. Der Platz wird bestimmt seine Liebhaber finden, die meisten davon werden Cart fahren, denn der Kurs ist lang ( von Gelb 6300 m) . Ich bin gelaufen, dafür wurde ich am Ende der 9 per Cart abgeholt und zur 10 gefahren. Ansonsten hätte der Spaziergang bestimmt 15 min gedauert. Die Terrasse bietet einen schönen Blick in die Sonnenuntergänge mit FirstClass - Service und internationalen Preisen. Die Runde kostet aktuell 95 € - ich bin gespannt, wie der Kurs den nächsten Golfern gefällt..
