The Wellington Golf Club is a 9 holes municipality course with different tee-boxes, close to Paarl.

One can and should not compare the level of this course to the overall high level of most courses in South Africa. The membership fees and green fees are low so management is probably working hard to meet ends.

Despite that, the course is very playable and likeable. Greens and fairways throughout the year, apart from sometimes in the summer, are on average in an ok condition. The course is separated by a pretty busy road, so holes 1/10 and 9/18 are played on one side of that road. A tunnel then brings you to the more quiet side of the course where only the occasional train roles by. The clubs website shows you the hole-by-hole and the overall layout. Hole 9/18 has like a double green so make sure where your approach shot is aimed at. You can easily be on the wrong side.

There is a halfway house in the clubhouse and I think it is appreciated if you use it. It sometimes is a bit difficult to attract attention from either kitchen staff or the person running the bar. But that is compensated for, again, by the price. I don't think there are warming-up or practise facilities. Buying lost balls from locals through or over the fence is not allowed.

When other nearby courses are fully booked, I like to quickly go to the Wellington Golf Club to play a round. The course usually is not busy, apart from member days. Call them up front to ask if it is a busy day or not.

The 9 hole course is really a members golf course and less suited for visitors. but if you in the area this flat course is well playable. Hospitality and drinks after the round is more enjoyable and cosy. Maintenance and water shortage contributed to the course conditions.

Do not expect too much but enjoy for 10 euro and friendly atmosphere in 19th hole.

Halfwayhouse is goed.
